Can anybody tell me why Apple isn’t selling email only accounts for .Mac?

I’m not talking about extra accounts. I’m talking no iDisk/iTools/iAnything. Just email.

Why wouldn’t they charge $2.95/month for email? Otherwise they get zip from me. Their service isn’t worth $100/year. $49, and let’s talk, Apple.

My favorite thing: there is no way to send this feedback to Apple. Sweet.

    want me to send it?

i have an executive “in” over at the house that steve built.

    They’re stingy. Plain and simple.

I couldn’t find an Apple feedback link but .Mac has a feedback section here http://www.apple.com/feedback/mac/tm.html

i work at a certain computer retail store, there’s nothing worse than the constant complaints of nerds whining over the price of a product you have abosolutely no control over. not that i think this is what blurb is doing. i just wanted to rant a little myself.

my job would be easier if the shirts we had to wear said:

“No i can’t tell you when the new powerbooks will come because i don’t know”

“Go home, it’s a friday night why are you in line buying a new operating system?”

“enough about your apple IIgs already, i’m not interested in the first computer you bought”

    etc…

i also wanted to add that i don’t think .mac is aimed towards people like yourself. for a lot of people it is worth it. the easy to use web storage, the website templates sans ads, virus protection, backup software, a 15 mb email account that never gets spam, iphoto integration, panther mirrors your idisk on you hard drive for really fast access, os x training, and isync syncs bookmarks, settings across multiple computers. anyways maybe not for you but a pretty cool package nonetheless

    doobie,

That’s why I want just .mac email. It’s a nice way use a screener email address that I can check from anywhere, but have sweet control via a nice mail reader (Mail).

well if you recommend .mac to someone who buys it you get twenty dollars off. so you and your wife should combine forces, pimp it on both blogs, and get 5 people to join. voila! free .mac account.

you can also buddy up with someone who has a .mac account and sign up for an additional email address for 10 bucks.

    D.J. Blurb where are you?

  • JenJen

He’s helping Heather with the Ten and Two…Give the man a break!

Good point! I apologize. It’s just that I miss him. I don’t see why a man with a full time job, a pregnant wife, a dog, a home, etc. doesn’t have time to entertain me on a daily basis.

You probably already saw this, but in case you didn’t:

Sounds as if they don’t need to offer anything else. I, however, am one of those people they love. I need the email account, as I’ve had it for a few years now, and I do use the space to store movies, etc…but I haven’t linked to a movie in a long time, so I pretty much just take up space and require zero bandwidth.

Because Steve Jobs said “no” and no amount of complaints et al will change his mind. He’s been bragging about the 80%+ renewal rate of .Mac asccounts and is happy as a lark. He likely remains very displeased with all the complaining that occurred when iTools accounts stopped being free and am skeptical he’d allow a complaint of any kind about .Mac to cross his desk. That’s why. He da boss. Now if you’d like for me to adopt you I can get you an account for $10.00 per year.
