    This is just great stuff

    The front page of yesterdayís UK Daily Mirror reads;

    ìDOH! 4 more years of Dubyaî

    ìHow can 59,054,087 people be so DUMB?î

    Made me wonder the same thing

    An excellent diatribe if any Democrats want to get riled up.

    Nice….The ONLY county in TX that’s black is MY county. I mean, I knew that my Kerry vote didn’t “count in Tx. anyway”, but geez!

    Yay for Cook County, Illinois! (It’s that little blue spot on the southwest coast of Lake Michigan). If it wasn’t for us, Illinois would be red.

  • http://ladymadaysia.blogdrive.com Amber

    Amazingly wonderful picture. There is a lot more blue than what the “whole state” view likes to show.

    Comparing the dark spots in the U.S. night photograph (from link) with the bright red regions reminds me of the difference between North and South Korea in their night photograph.

    I’m a blue state! But I don’t feel like it makes a ton of difference now. Small comfort, I guess.

  • Mike

    The arrogance continues. Hopefully this is short-lived or the progressive agenda is doomed.

  • coralie

    I feel so… purple.

    What are the black counties?

    The purpose for posting this is not to drive people further into their corners. It’s to show that despite the electoral map, the country is not as divided as the media is painting it. The candidates and their teams have followed certain paths and portrayals to win. Our lazy media have swallowed both sides version. The map above is a refreshing look at a country more centrist than the TV is telling us.

    Maybe it’s still too soon to hope that the anger and depression turn into positive introspection and search for an electable candidate.

  • Amanda B.

    There’s not much going on right now that could be called progressive, in the government or among the rest of us. Maybe things won’t get better untill they get much worse. Gaaaawd I hope not.

    Anyway, I still think we can all take the high road and work together.

    Kind of scary. this is from andrewsullivan.com.

    THE MURDERER OF VAN GOGH: No, I’m not letting go of this story. When a film-maker in a liberal Western country is shot, has his throat cut and then has a long manifesto pinned into his flesh with a knife in broad daylight, more people need to be concerned. Now it turns out that the murderer, who had completely blended into Dutch society, belonged to the same Islamist cult as Abu Musab al Zarqawi, the terrorist now at large in Iraq. The cult is called Takfir Wal Hijra. Here’s a useful Dutch blog on the case. Money quote:

    TIME wrote about Takfir Wal Hijra: ‘Takfir wal Hijra is a sort of Islamic fascism.’ However, even more interesting is the assertion that Takfir Wal Hijra apparently allows its members to appear non-radical, and even non-Islamic, if the mission requires it: ‘The threat of Takfir is that its cold, heartless killers could easily be the boy or girl next door. Takfir Wal Hijra members are permitted to disregard the injunctions of Islamic law in order to blend into infidel societies. In other words, Takfirs can have sex with loose women, drink alcohol, eat pork and do whatever else they feel is appropriate to advance their mission.’
    That was also true of the murderers of 9/11. How conveeenient. The note – written in fluent, literate Dutch – is chilling. Here is part of its message. Remember that it was pinned into someone’s flesh with a knife, and also threatened another person, Dutch parliamentarian, Ayaan Hirsi Ali:

    I know for sure that you, Oh America will go under;
    I know for sure that you, Oh Europe, will go under;
    I know for sure that you, Oh Holland, will go under;
    I know for sure that you, Oh Hirsi Ali, will go under;
    I know for sure that you, Oh unbelieving fundamentalist, will go under.
    What part of that do we not understand?

    Interesting to see that some of the “red states” had some of the bluest counties. Thanks for posting this!

    I love this. Anyone listen to Randi Rhodes today? http://www.blackboxvoting.org, NOT .com, they’re weasels.

    Liberals suck….You just can’t realize that the majority
    of the country doesn’t agree with you.

  • http://www.blurbomat.com dj blurb

    Jombie,

    And conservatives suck, too, because they want to call a 4% margin of victory a “mandate” or a “majority”. This was a very close race and not just the presidential race. That’s the point of showing data that represents the popular vote as opposed to the electoral college. All that red sent a message. All the purple does, too.

    Please with the god damned name calling already. I’m a liberal and I’m trying to understand what appeals to people who don’t agree with me. Apparently, we all like to name call, so we’re more similar than perhaps previously understood.

  • Mike

    A progressive agenda:

    - Education reform – Charter schools anyone?

    - Tax reform – Why have progressive taxation? Even worse, why the increase in VATs, which are regressive? Let’s have a flat tax.

    - Entitlement reform – without a huge increase in the US’s tax base (a possibility with immigration reform) or huge cuts in spending, Gen X and Gen Next are doomed starting in 2014.

    - A foreign policy that actively works to set up democratic regimes.

    Both parties are deathly afraid of most of the above. Why? Because it involves guts. Because it involves real change. Because there is a political cost to enacting these reforms. We need a William Jennings Bryan for our time. Better yet, we need a Bull Moose Teddy Roosevelt. He at least won an election.

  • Tree

    Kristina (Cook Co., Il)…THANK YOU to you and other the others who got out there and voted.

  • Jenny

    Liberals suck? Man, I wish I’d known that we suck. What have I been thinking? You’re right, where can I sign up for the “Moral Majority?” I can’t wait to not suck.

  • http://www.suburbanbliss.net MelissaS

    I’m feeling a little less blind because of this.

    My county is the bluest in my state. Of course it means I’m still 3 years old and life exists only right in front of my face.

    But maybe in the next 4 years I’ll grow up.

    (Liberals Suck. That’s so annoying.)
