Horrorscope

I can only imagine the body tensing pain that my wife would experience if she read my horoscope today:

Leo (July 23 — Aug 22) — Today is a 6 — Take some of your hard-earned cash and get a tool you’ve been wanting. It isn’t hard to justify; you’ll make the money back in no time.

Do they not know that they are talking to a geek here? I can think of about $10k US just off the top of my head in “tools”.

  • Russ

It’s not often that the planets align for tool/toy purchasing. Use the force, and choose wisely.

    Damn, I wish I was a Leo.…

    Jon,

    Gadget geek heaven.

  • http://www.suburbanbliss.net MelissaS

Maybe it was referring to the snowblower you wanted to purchase.…although, unless you’re considering a career change that won’t make back any money.

Oh God! My fiance is a Leo. Hide that horrorscope! Hide it, now!!

    Hahahaha. I love you guys.

I would also like to add that, as a Virgo, I took one look at seannarae’s gadget, and had to close the browser. That thing was scary.

Thoreau once said, “Men have become tools of their tools.”

Speaking of tools, have you seen these modern definitions?

Hammer — In ancient times, a tool used to inflict pain on one’s enemies. Modern hammers are used to inflict pain on oneself.

Screwdriver — The drink ordered at the local bar after you call in a professional repairman to undo the $500 in damage you did while trying to change out a light socket with your handy screwdriver.

Phillips Screwdriver — The bar drink that you order when the damage estimate is over $1,000. Contains twice the vodka.

Ooh! Please keep posting geeky fabulous things! I’m having such fun!!

  • http://vanessar.com nessa

WOW that makes my day, I am a Leo too I guess according to that Horrorscope I should definitely buy the Canon 20D. Funny thing is I just emailed Dooce to get an opinion about this camera over the one you guys got Nikon D70, money was a big difference but now with your post it might even be worth it, HA, HA..

WHICH ONE WOULD YOU GET IF YOU WERE ME?? (I know you have the Nikon D70 but if the Canon 20D was available when you bought your camera which one would you have chosen?)

  • http://www.lemonlight.org Angie M

I sometimes have to buy a whole STACK of papers before I find a good horoscope like that! (I say ‘buy’, I actually steal all the lifestyle sections from the press office at work).

  • http://www.blurbomat.com dj blurb

Here’s the thing. The Canons are totally sweet. The D70 beat out the camera we could afford, the Canon Digital Rebel (300D). If you have $2,000 US, the Canon 20D is a sweet camera and one I’d consider any day. We didn’t have that much money to spend on a camera, so we got the D70. We haven’t been disappointed, but we’re not _that_ freaky about the Nikon.

Itís been a great day so far:

    Halo 2 released
    Mozilla Firefox 1.0 released
    John Ashcroft resigns

Perhaps you should celebrate by getting that Canon EOS-D1s Mk. II as alexanderino suggested? :-)

    Poor Dooce, poor, poor Dooce.

  • Amanda Q.

Poor Dooce my kiester. I’d bet my husband’s left one she’s into the gagets too.

That’s one of the cool things about marriage. If spouse A buys something awesome, the spouse B can totally enjoy it and still have leverage over spouse A for spending precious funds on gagets.

Another perk of marriage is that if you watch “Stargate SG1” with your husband you can get him to watch“What Not to Wear” with you. Which almost makes up for his man-crush on Richard Dean Anderson.

  • http://www.chubbypixel.com Tyler

not_that_freaky.…..? What the hell does that mean? I was all set to get the D70…now am I hearing it’s not all its cracked up to be? Dude, whats the deal? You should do a in depth analysis of the D70 for your readers. Or at least give us some details about what you don’t like.

  • http://www.tracemeek.com/ Trace

Doode, go for the G5! (Sorry H. and L.)

If I had been born a day later I’d be in similar shoes, rationalizing away.

The h’scope is, of course, correct. You really will make the money back in no time.

  • http://www.blurbomat.com dj blurb

“Not that freaky” means I’m not going to be all religious about the Nikon D70. It is a great camera. I would imagine that the other options are also great.

The only thing stopping us from getting the Canon was price. $1249 vs. $1999. We love the D70, but that doesn’t mean we wouldn’t love a different camera. There is more than one way to take a picture.

Tyler, if you are relying on this site for your information on digital cameras… ouch. There are other, more focused sites that will tell you more than you’d ever want to know about the pros and cons of each digital SLR.

  • http://www.chubbypixel.com Tyler

    dj blurb,

Thanks for the clarification. Actually I have gone through all the digital camera sites and read all the way too techy info that I could care less about. The thing I really want to know is what a “normal” person thinks about it and their conclusions and reviews, cause I really can’t relate to a guy giving me advice based on a Luminance noise graphs and internal sharpening algorithms.

  • http://www.vanessar.com Nessa

How about the Canon 10D vs Nikon D70 both are around the same price now aren’t they, only big difference is shutter 1/4000 vs 1/8000 or what other differences are there? I am getting all my info from http://www.dpreview.com is ther a better site to get info?

Trace sorry I have the G5 and I am really disapointed with it (or maybe I just don’t know how to use it correctly), personally I do not like how the autofocus takes forever to lock, and low light pictures without flash create a ghost like image. ISO & Shutterspeed aren’t enough for taking pictures of my active boy.

Jon your comments are appeciated, you certainly know your stuff. Thanks

    dammit, i wish i was a leo!

  • http://metrodad.typepad.com/index/ MetroDad

I wouldn’t say I’m a “normal” guy but we have the D70 and it’s superfly fresh for all your funky fine photo needs. Really, it’s a great camera.
