Don’t you hate it when you do a search and the only result is you?

  • http://ebirkhol.diaryland.com e

HA! That’s not yet happened to me but just the mere thought of this is funny. It’s odd enough when you’re the first result for a random subject that you would expect to have a few hundred hits before listing your site, but to be the first and ONLY? Too hilarious!

  • MrsDoF

Well, we have the only listing with our name in the local telephone book, but Blurbomat/Dooce is the only one in the world?
This is clear evidence–One of a Kind.

hey, at least it’s not a query about goat porn or something.

i think that kinda makes you a nerd king. you stumped the ineternet.

Don’t you hate it when you click the link to the article and then only truly understand the first 3 lines? Yeah. Ok, I understood the last 2 as well.

  • http://chaoticharmony.typepad.com/chaotic_harmony/ Lactivist

No way, don’t hate that! But do wonder why you’re the only one who has used the word “decrufted”.

Boise is only about 4 hours away actually.

And yeah, I hate it when I click on a link and then immediately close the page because I’m afraid of being rendered even dumber than when I was when I opened the page.

  • http://www.google.com/search?tab=gw&q=de-cruft%20url%20in%20mt&hl=en& Sheryl

Ha ha, yeah… gotta love that. That’s why some of my colleauges think concept search engines are better than google. But google and I can usually come to some kind of arrangement. I do most of the compromising of course.

Maybe using wildcards would work better. Like this:
    de-cruft* url* in mt

And making the context ‘in mt’ work (and not voiding the ‘in’) by putting the phrase in double quotes
    de-cruft* url* “in mt”

  • http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=cruft+url+%22in+mt%22 Sheryl

Not knowing what you were casting for, this might be a better string than the one I just suggested since prefixes and suffixes are somewhat new to the root cruft wrt “in mt”:
    *cruft* url* “in mt”

[sorry to be such a dork, and tho it is v likely you know these techniques - I share with others when possible since they increase the search power of the average bear exponentially.]

  • The Inmate

I’m slightly disappointed in your nerd powers. You used the word “in” on Google. “In” is a very common word, and was not included in your search. Faux pas, Jon. Very faux pas.

  • http://www.blurbomat.com dj blurb

Inmate, you are not the only one.

  • Bee

It’s such a common phenomenon (called a googlewhack) that some guy has an off broadway one man show that hinges on it.
