Another Sunrise

Digging on the crappy cameraphone. I’ll be doing a write-up on how I get photos off the phone using a regular USB cable and some funky software. It saves the .25/photo that Verizon charges and puts them in a more permanent place for later use.

    Is that photo altered? If not I like how your phone takes pictures. My phone is attatched to the wall, hard to travel with.

    AT/T-cum-Cingular charges $0.10 per text message over & above the 20 that comes with my current plan.

    my GOD what are these firms thinking? are they really concerned that lowering or waiving these transmission fees is going to flood their bandwidth?

    Why stiffle it? Smells like it might free up (at least some) bandwidth since less vox traffic.

    i’ve seen cameraphone images before from more then a few cameras and they all look like pooh. yours dont though. maybe the lenses on these things step-up to the challenge when you point them at pretty shit. maybe.

    You can upload photos w/ an USB cable? I think we have the same camera phone so now I’m panting for that info you promised. But could you please keep the geek-speak at a minimum for those of us who lost interest in programming after the Texas Instrument of Clunky Death circa 1986?

    Side note: How was I born in the Internet generation and not know how to code anything? Hmph. Well at least I can deconstruct any Disney film and Aqua Teen Hungerforce.

    PS– I’m lying about the ATHF analysis. I can’t figure it out, I just laugh until the pee flows freely.

    I have a Sanyo camera phone through Sprint, but since I cancelled the PCS Vision service, I have no way to offload the pictures. That $15 service but they at least didn’t charge any extra per picture. At least if you had the “picture pack” Vision plan, which I did.

    I have a USB cable, and there’s $30 software out there that I’m told will pull the photos off the camera, but the catch is that I don’t want to spend the $30, at least not yet.

    So for now, no photos for me.

    So excited about my new camera phone, I changed my plan with Verizon yesterday to add 80 picture messages and a few less texts for about $5 a month. Still a rip-off, but less of one. Eager to hear an alternative.

    I just bluetooth them from my phone to my Palm T3 then sync it with my PC.…a bit convoluted but it works OK.

    Using bluetooth, however convoluted would be great if only my phone was bluetooth capable. I nearly had to arm-wrestle the Verizon guy today get him to sell me a USB cable that would work with my LG VX6100. After I (STUPIDLY) told him I was interested in trying to find a way to upload my pictures to computer w/o emailing them he treated me like the thief that I am. I wanted to say “Can you hear me now? GOOD! SELL ME THE CABLE!” Sheesh. Looking forward to your tutorial, Jon. Many thanks in advance.

    Excellent tutorial, I shall have to give it a whirl!

    CDMA is the name of the wireless technology used by Verizon (and Sprint) and your phone is setup to work on CDMA infrastructure. As opposed to GSM technology that is used by Cingular/AT&T Wireless and T-Mobile. This post makes me wonder if you can convert the phone from a CDMA phone to a GSM phone by installing new software directly on the phone. Since GSM phones use SIM cards, I suspect it requires more than software.

    CDMA = Code Division Multiple Access
    GSM = Global System for Mobile Communication
    SIM = Subscriber Identity Module.
