CEO Gone Mad

Here’s an example. Someone needs to tell the person(s) making the decisions about a home page that going Las Vegas doesn’t make their product line more attractive.

Note: I’ve compressed the hell out of the image for bandwidth reasons. Plus, it makes the page look worse.

I’ve been hating that page for a year now. Go to it regularly and can’t ever ever find anything…Where oh where did Aladdin go?

  • http://www.blurbomat.com Zak

Thier site has been going down hill for years now. With successive owners it hasn’t gotten any better.

    Bring back Raymond Lau.

And good luck downloading *just* Expander. The only way to get it is to download one of the free trials of either Deluxe or Standard. Screw you, Allume.

What happens on bad web pages should STAY on bad web pages. Quick, disinfect the Blurbomat! Yikes! All they’re missing is some flashing buttons.

ACK! Ugly as a mud fence, and I think I had a seizure!

  • pagalina

    client: “make that bigger“
“well, now that other thing gets lost, make IT stand out“
“okay, that other thing needs to stand out“
Another case of “if everything is bold, then NOTHING stands out“
(in best whiny artfag voice “web design is haaaaaaarrrrrrd.”

  • Stephanie

This site looks like a great candidate for October 2005 Blurbomat Whore…you think?

I hope that some designer’s soul isn’t laying underneath that website. And if it is, I hope it finds it’s way here to accept my condolences.

    Oh. Oh my.

    Puke.

  • Tom

Jon, think about it. I’ve read yours and Heather’s blogs for months now. If you are the emperor, don’t walk around naked and think you are stylin’. Dooce and blurbomat are great, mostly; ain’t nothing perfect, you know. Inspired me to start up. But watch out for all the syncophants, you guys are smarter than that. I will always be checking in. I’ve read all the posts, and if that’s the way you want to be known, guess what, I know you. I’m trying NOT to suck. You guys don’t.

  • Jill

First of all, it’s ‘sycophant’. (Personally, I’m only the syco part…) You must be talking about people who try to win favor by flattering boy bands.

Damn. That page is hur-ting. Buncha little billboards.

    That hurts my eyes.

somebody needs to give this same message to the people at godaddy. maybe in the early days when we were all giddy with excitement at this new-fangled internet thang…but now? sigh.

  • http://thetornpages.blogspot.com sue

Bleck. Oh, and thank you for sharing.

I was just on that page yesterday, and I thought the very same thing — and as a graphic designer I HATE IT SO DAMN MUCH when some business people decide the best way to market their site is to PUT AS MUCH CRAP ON THE PAGE AS POSSIBLE. Goddammit they make me want to type in all caps.…(end of rant, LOL)
