If only liberals were half as angry at the people who flew planes into our skyscrapers as they are with the President and Tom DeLay, we might have two patriotic parties in this country.

When Democrats are accused of wrongdoing, it’s usually something more like what most people think of as a crime, say, punching a Capitol Hill policeman.

If only conservatives took responsibility for being lying scumbags. (Delay, Ney, Cunningham, et al)

    Nice one, McDonie.

  • Eddie Garrett

If only both sides would actually do something productive, something big that would better our country and solve the real problems we face instead of trying to point out how shitty the other party was. I’m so sick of both parties. It’s pathetic that politics and public service has come to this.

52% of the people don’t vote … not because of apathy, but because neither party represents them.

  • mfree

How is it that a president so focused on revenge and justice amasses complete support from a religion that is supposed to be based on forgiveness and humility.

Blurb, you seem to be more active on the comments. :)

Have you considered having a forum in addition to comments?

A question — how much responsibility should congress and the ‘mainstream’ media bear for not making more of a stink over W’s actions? I remember the Lewinsky crap dominating the airwaves for weeks on end and Bush’s antics are far more devastating than simple sexual misconduct. The only place where any real anger and frustration seems to be displayed is in blogs and webpages. Is mainstream media working so hard to disprove the ‘liberal bias’ tag that it’s not being true to its calling?

  • http://bigdlittledmistatruffyandme.blogspot.com Karen Rani

I’m not into politics like you Jon, but I will say we have similar issues with our government thinking they are above the law. It’s so frustrating to hear, “Well the majority voted for them, so it’s the public’s fault.” I just wish the people could institute more change then a simple election. It’s outdated. Our last election was a clusterfuck and there was/is no majority. Several parties are sharing the power and hopefully they will hold each other accountable…of course wasting MORE tax dollars and time by arguing, I’m sure. I agree with Malt09 above — Bush has done horrible things and Clinton got a worse public flogging for his actions. Says alot about our societies. Do you think Bush will be impeached?

  • McDonie

Might I just remind you that President Clinton lied while under oath, and in his nationally televised statement to the American people. Monica Lewinsky claims (Starr Report) that the former President told her he’d had over 100 affairs. My guess is that he was lying about that too? Fucking whore!

  • blurb

McDonie, might I just remind you that Bush lied as well on TV. He’s the leaker. He mislead the country as to his role in the leak.

It’s been a long time since I last posted so I figure this a good as time as any to put the gloves back on…

Had this been the first time that our government (any party), had done this, I might make a bigger deal out of this. The fact that our information age is opening up doors to this type of ‘spying’ and ‘espionage’ on our own people tends to make people believe it has NEVER happened before. Get a grip people, its the role of our government to spy on EVERYONE! That’s what we pay them for. The fact that they have to do a little undercover work to protect you and I doesn’t bother me in the least. Of course, if I had something to hide, perhaps I might be a little nervous. But the fact that I’m paying to have my country (my family and I) protected here as well as abroad does not bother me in the least. Hell, this is just the tip of the iceberg. What do we all have to worry about if we’re doing what is right!

This is nothing new and will never go away. Find something else to wine about…

  • blurb

I think the whining isn’t about the government as much as it is about a certain party in power and the difference in the media between a Republican president and a Democratic president.

With this post, the links I provided show that perhaps the media is going to turn up the heat.

I think I’m hearing from the conservatives that actualy, it does depend on what “is” is.

  • Lively Lady

Republicans are hypocrits. They’ll impeach a Democrat for oral sex but turn a blind eye to rolling back the Constitution, spying on its citizens, waging an illegal war, murdering and maiming thousands of young Americans, bankrupting a nation, outing a CIA operative…

Maybe someone should just give Dubya a blow job.

  • http://www.skowronek.org skowronek

I agree, in the perfect world, there would be no controversy, no lying, nothing to really “whine” about. I’m still torn on the role of media though. I agree that its good for the American people to be ‘informed’. However, even with Clinton’s fiasco, I don’t feel it was worth the hype. There are a lot of dumb people making very important decisions in high places (our president and cabinet not excluded). This includes the media.

  • Burgie

Eddie Garret: Great comment. I 100% agree.

  • http://rhythmicinterchange.blogspot.com sravana

When you said this: “It would seem the media gloves are beginning to come off”, I thought of two things.
    1) It’s about effing time.
    2) So, of course, the Prez is going to have to nuke Iran to get them back in line.

Dammit, I have 15 more months of school. I wanted to have that degree before we all go to hell in a handbasket.

    pfft

  • Sebastian

    > I wanted to have that degree before we all go to hell in a handbasket.

Don’t worry, won’t be all of us. Just those that live where the Iranian Nuke goes off that was smuggled in from Mexico.

And then think how much fun it’ll be to blame Bush! There’ll be bi-partisan commissions investigating the cause, making recommendations. Maybe some grand juries. No limit to the second guessing and headlines. Plus all the political posturing. Not to mention the UN and the World condemning us.

Life will be good in the Blogosphere as they wring their hands.

I agree with Eddie Garret as well.

Might as well relabel the political parties the Crips and Bloods for as much good as they do. All they seem to stand for is whatever the opposite of the other party regardless even if they held that position in the past.

Whatever passes for legislation is premised upon maximizing the constituency for the next election instead of what is really good for the country. And whatever is good for one party is obviously bad for the other.

Nothing good or bad in this country will happen until one party has a super majority.

‘Politics’: ‘Poli’ in Latin meaning ‘many’ and ‘tics’ meaning ‘bloodsucking creatures’.

  • http://jonniker.com Jonniker

Hm. As I understand it, and what’s painfully unfortunate, or fortunate, depending on which side you’re on, is that because the Republicans dominate Congress, there really won’t be any repurcussions until (if) the Dems unseat more of them this election year.

I’ve thought about this, and I firmly believe that I would be just as frustrated if a Dem were in office with these actions as I am GWB. I’m perplexed by those who think that all of the discontent is about party lines. It’s not.

  • SAHM

(kinda) off the subject, but my husband showed me last night that if you Google the word “failure” all links to Dubya’s white house show up…

All of you DO realize the adminstration’s brain trust which orchestrated this little junior high prank is the same one running the country?

    Terrifying prospect isn’t it?

Is this the best scheme they could come up with, prank phone calls?

    Seriously?

These are the same bozos directing the war ::cough::for-more-oil::cough:: on terror.

The Administration should have stuck with their strengths. Like prank calling or leaking vital information. That would have given ol’ Saddam some sleepless nights.

What does it have to take to get this man out of office? An act of God?

  • Sebastian

    > All of you DO realize the administration’s brain trust which orchestrated this little junior high prank is the same one running the country?

Come on Sam, Blurb, get out more. Political dirty tricks are classic. OK, jamming the phone lines is no Dick Tuck, but you’d be laughing your ass off if it happened to Bush.

I’m sure this was one of many tricks that happened during the campaign by both sides. The difference is that these bozos in New Hampshire got caught.

When did it become illegal to call people and hang up??? Thank goodness they didn’t knock on the door and run away.

    -

I want to know who decides what the definition of “something to hide”, is? With the government eavesdropping on ordinary citizens who object to their policies (for example, people who protest the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy), eventually we’ll all be guilty of having “something to hide”, even if we don’t realize it.

  • http://biggaysam.com Sam Merrill

What is it with this “everybody’s doing it” approach and the Roosevelt quote that all the Bush supporters are parroting?

Does this approach actually work for you?

No there isn’t any law against repeat hang-ups. That isn’t the issue and you damn well know it. What he was trying to do is the issue. He was attempting to sabotage an election in the most assinine way possible. He is a government official and he was interfering with due process. The last time I checked, that’s illegal.

If it happened to Bush I would be just as appalled. Not by the legality of their actions, no, it was for the sheer stupidity of it all.

    It’s embarrassing.

  • southerngirl

I really can’t believe that there are people who are still defending this administration. (Although the reasons they are giving here are silly and meaningless.)

How can anyone not see that Bush and his minions are destroying our country? If they were true patriots, they would speak out against this government and demand a better one.
