Bits from a Sigur Rós show

“Wow those Icelandic women in Amiina (Amiina on 3hive) are band nerd hot.”

“Wow, there are some big closets people are hiding in,” after watching flamingly gay person deny he and his date were gay. And then as Sigur Rós started he squealed and jumped up and down while flapping his hands. None of which was a problem. Just the weird denial. This might enter the Only In Utah file, but I imagine that sadly, this happens all the time in other places.

“Wow, I’m inside the music. It’s like being 11 years old and having headphones on really loud, even though no one is home. And I’m playing air guitar and drums and pretending to be onstage. And the future is wide open. And I have goose bumps.”

“This is what Spinal Tap was talking about with the Majesty of Rock and the Pageantry of Roll.”

“This is gonna take awhile to process.”

“The violin bow on the guitar is sweet.”

“Jón þór birgisson’s voice is otherworldly.”

“Superlatives escape me. This is gonna take awhile to process.”

See this band live. You won’t regret it.

() is a great album, and I can’t wait to hear them live. They remind me of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, only less weird.

I’m jealous! They’re one of the bands on my List Of Bands to See Live Before I Die.

I got to see their show for the first time last week—what an amazing voice. While a couple of singers came to mind (Thom Yorke and Wayne Coyne–sp??), that was one of the most original rock shows I have ever seen in my life. Loved the spooky screen at the beginning and end, and how he had to suck in with so much force at the encore to be able to belt out the rest of the songs. Amazing.

I saw them in NYC and they were amazing. My photos are not especially good (I was far back and my camera is bad and broken), but they convey the experience.

I found this beautiful music video online today which makes my heart swell and implode into a zillion peices. Possibly you have already seen it as you are so uber cool and net savvy… and I may be the last person on the internet to have found out about it… but just incase you haven’t, I want to share this with you as it made my day and I know you guys like Brit pop.

Saw them in Seattle. Amazing, as always. They played at Benaroya Hall where the Seattle Symphany plays. It sounded incredible!

I don’t even think getting married will compare to the experience I had with Sigur RÛs last night in Minneapolis.

I will easily have Amiina’s babies as well.

One life goal completed, thirty-thousand to go.

I was right there with you, John. Seeing them live was an ethereal experience. And The Depot is quite a nice venue. I’ll be at the Eels/Smoosh show there next month, too.

I saw them in Sydney in April.. it was a breathtaking show.
I’m still annoyed that the door wench wouldn’t let me take my camera in.

We’re seeing them in Detroit on Thursday…for the third time. It’s sensory overload, but in a totally delightful way.

I’d love to, but they haven’t come to Houston in years.

Too Cool! My wife got tickets to the Bahston show (on May 15) months back and we’ve been counting down ever since. She’s gonna be so envious that you guys have already been.

  • Teeny225

I’m gutted — they were playing at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange a few months ago, right round the corner from my house, and I didn’t know about it and missed em! Godammit!

I saw them live in Philadelphia and was only vaguely familiar with them before the show. However, afterwards I had their music on non-stop. Some songs are just so powerful that I can’t help but cry.

Lure me in with references to hot nerdy band chicks and keep me with the music. Nice.

Please, any of you true fans planning to attend one of their shows, do yourselves a HUGE favor if it’s general admission: Get there early enough and be aggressive enough to plant yourselves as close to the stage as possible, hopefully near other true fans who might actually *gasp* LISTEN to the show. A couple of years ago when they stopped here, we got to our venue early but decided to play nice and ended up stuck in the back by the bar where comments about breasts, beer selection, and “How come I can’t understand a word they’re saying??” (obviously real fans there) was all we heard. I left early, angry and in tears, and out of the dozens of shows I’ve seen, not getting to bask in their magic remains one of my biggest disappointments.

Funny people should mention Sigur RÛs and marriage, exactly one year ago my husband and I got married and we had Sigur RÛs playing throughout the ceremony, it was beautiful. Only… other people didn’t seem to think so. People kept making sour faces and coming up to me with comments like “What is this… ‘music’?… it sounds like a funeral, it’s depressing.” and at one point the music actually STOPPED, and was replaced with… wait for it… Kenny G.

    Kenny… G.….

It was while they were doing the portraits. I freaked. I’m sure if you looked at the negatives of the film you would see my face contorting into demonic anger. I asked the wedding coordinator what was going on and she said some people requested they put that music on instead. I demanded Sigur RÛs be put back on.
Who does that? Seriously? I’ve attended so many hillbilly hoedown weddings and not once did I ever go “This music sucks, here, put my Ministry cd on.”

Take Leeloo’s advice. My husband and I were at the Salt Lake show, and because I am old and lazy, I wanted to sit. By the time we arrived, the only seats were in the bar area rather than on the floor, and the crowd noise was unbelievable, particularly during Amiina’s set. I loved Amiina–was very sad that the cd they were selling was only an EP. Great show all around, except for the talkers.

We went to the Mogwai show last Tuesday, too. Needless to say, crowd noise was not a problem at that one.

I love Sigur Ros. My friend Bethany saw them here in Ohio, then a few days later she had her mom drive her and her friend (last minute) to Indianapolis. Now she is seeing them again sometime this week in Chicago. I really hope to see them someday.

I saw Sigur RÛs in Boston back in February. Quite possibly one of the most moving experiences of my life. Going to see them again this Sunday.

  • Greg

    good music… scarey fans!

wow, i just got a patriotic sting in my heart looking at your website! it’s full of travel ads to iceland and SigurRos!! their music is something else! I just love the fact that even though i live in Indonesia Iceland seems to be just about everywhere.

oh, a lot of icelandic girls are band nerd hot. have you seen miss world 2005? well… maybe not the ”band nerd” kind of hot.

and yes, i do live to promote Iceland :)

I saw them a few years back — with The Ablum Leaf opening for them! — in NYC. Incredible show. I agree, a great band to see live, and would love to see them again (even though I only own their first two albums).

I saw them in Brisbane in April.

Amina were hot. At one point the lead came out of one of the keyboards and the beat to the song just stopped. They laughed and started again to raucous cheers.

Sigur Ros = rock. Seeing how they make those sounds rocked. Untitled #8, great encore.
