More Mac Pro, Leopard Preview and my unknown illness

Ars Technica has it’s review of the Mac Pro including some nice comparative graphs. When this one popped into my feed reader, I immediately clicked in and was not disappointed.

Ransom Note Typography has a nice, more personal first glance here.

As a bonus, Hardmac.com has a write up and some screenshots of Leopard from their own install.

060814_westnile.jpgAnd then there is the crazy, migraine-like and flu-like pains and fatigue which could be West Nile Virus as I have all of the symptoms. The scariest part of West Nile is the encephalitis or meningitis that could come as a result. Heather and Leta took me to urgent care on Saturday. They drew blood and told me that my white cell counts were super normal, which is good. They also did a urinalysis and found no sign of bladder or kidney infection. After the white cell count, they drew another vial of blood for testing to determine if I have West Nile. So I wait for now. I expect to hear from them either later today or tomorrow. Kind of scary.

Heather has been absolutely wonderful in nursing me. I’ve been in bed since last Thursday afternoon. Thursday night I had a temperature of 101.5 and every day since it’s dropped. Last night my tempurature was 99.5 and then this morning it was normal. These are good signs. I just wish I didn’t have this crushing headache. The body aches are likely more from laying in bed than anything, but the headache is nasty and relentless.

I determined in 2002 that our lives would never be “normal”. I’ve been right so far.

I’ll keep you posted.

    Jon,
I contracted meningo-encephalitis in the summer of 2002. The doctors believed it began with West Nile virus. I had to have a spinal tap to confirm my diagnosis. I ended up having three of the those damn spinal taps during that awful summer(and four hospital stays). The headaches were unbearable! They made a migraine headache seem like a walk in the park by comparison. I was off work for four months and nearly died. The encephalitis affected my speech, balance and memory. Luckily, I recovered but even a year later I had some residual problems. I don’t want to alarm you but just letting you know it is a very serious illness.
I hope you will get better soon and that it isn’t West Nile or encephalitis. Here is a website that my mother found when I was sick and it has several stories of West Nile or encephalitis survivor’s. http://tinyurl.com/jr26d

Uh oh, I bought the clogs *and* I have a nasty headache. I certainly hope it’s unrelated or I may have to blame you. Then again, always better to blame someone else for my headaches versus eyestrain (crap, I’m getting old and the first pair of glasses should be ready on Friday) or bad migraine genetics from my mom. Anyway, hope you feel better soon.

I think this IS clog related. Quick… THROW THEM AWAY!

    Or better still… burn them!

But whatever you do, get well soon! ;0)

Jon, I’m a long time lurker, decided to come out of the wood work to send you my best “get well soon” wishes. Hope you feel better really soon.

Sorry U are going thru this!.…I think if Heather were to wear your clogs …and only your clogs as she nurses U.…it might help.

**on another note…I had meningitis…the only remedy for that gigantuan headache was a shot of demerol in my tushy.…..the pain was still there.…I just didnt care anymore!

The downside to it all?.…its just has to run its course.…there is nothing they can give you besides pain killers.….…

Blurb, think positive, drink lots of liquids, and I hear using Crocs as pillows is proving therapeutic in geriatric wards around the country, even in Boston.

Jon, have you been tested for glandular fever? Those are the EXACT same symptoms I got when I had it (although I was one of the unlucky few who get it for about a year solid). I was also tested for thyroid disorders after it dragged on, but that wasn’t it. Hated the fever and the horrendous headaches, ughhh. Hope you get better soon blurb!

My illness wasn’t clog-related, but I think yours is. Seriously. Take it as a sign, ditch the clogs. They can’t be good for you… ;-)

    jon…

for five days now, I have had these flu-like pains, and a MASSIVE headache. I feel like my esophagus is on fire and I’m living on Tylenol Sinus which takes the edge of the headache…only a bit. My dr. yesterday said there was a virus going around like this. My 3 yr old daughter has had a hight fever for two days now with no other symptoms I’ve found out about. I would say it’s not West Nile, (for some reason this year, summer is bringing the sicknesses you’d expect mid-winter!) Hope you are feeling better today.

    Don’t listen to the detractors — it’s NOT clog-related.

In happier clog news, I was in one of the outdoor stores here and saw some ‘new’ Crocs on their display. The straps were nylon with Velcro adjustments, in colors contrasting the clogs themselves (orange straps on green clogs — saWEET). Unfortunately, they were out of my size in the color I wanted (and they were $10 more than regular Crocs).

    Get well soon.

Normal lives are so boring — imperfections can be endearing. It’s not the clogs. I bought a pair for myself last month and my husband wears them all of the time. Thankfully they are not pink but a nice deep brown.

I just found this web site that in the event you’ve lost your religion, it will tell you what religion it thinks you should be. Big surprise that probably every 1st place answer is Unitarian, but what I loved is that the religion I was raised in is the religion that was at the bottom of my results list.

    Your experience may vary.

Hi Jon, I’ve been out of town, so I was surprised to find you are sick, too! My trip to Disney was cancelled due to children throwing up in that projectile way they like to do, and now I, too, am fighting off the germs. It’s the children! They’re giant bug-carriers…

But I jest… I really do hope you are feeling better soon.

I hope that you find the cause of your illness and feel better very very soon.

I was watching House on DVD last night, and if you’re collecting rain water on your roof, and pigeons shit in that water, and then you use that water to water your marijuana plants, then maybe, just maybe, you might want to test that water. I’m just sayin.’

I finally heard that it’s not West Nile, but that you are still waiting to see what your illness is. Sending you lots of love and well wishes. Feel better soon.

Please post what illness you have if/when you find out. My hubby has had the exact same symptoms. We are on the 7th day and still waiting for the West Nile results. I’m going crazy.

Sorry to hear about the icky illness. Hope you feel better soon.

If you had what many consider to be a normal life, you’d be bored to tears.
