Of course, now he gets to play the victim… and he even played the race card during his speech.

Glad to be rid of him. I never thought I’d miss John Ashcroft.

you can smell the election coming up. get rid of the sour-tasting knobs first. Then, allow the public to think the GOP is responsible for bringing troops back in a couple of months when the 15 month maximum will be up for many.

I am extremely disappointed only because I won’t be able to use the AG moniker I’ve been saving: Speedy Trial Gonzalez.

  • http://blancheflower.blogspot.com James

Republican Sen. McConnell and Cornyn’s comments were fascinating, basically blaming the democrats for a “poisonous” and “hyperpartisan” atmosphere that brought down a good man. Wowsers.

The real question is who the Senate will confirm as a replacement. Sadly, I think Chertoff actually has a chance.

Of course, there are rumors that Gonzo took off now so Bush could try a recess appointment.

Bush isn’t that brazen, is he?

  • Candi

First Rove and now Gonzo! The lackeys are running scared. Let’s just hope that the investigations don’t stop.

  • http://www.alikelystory.blogs.com Kath

    Great great great news!

  • Mimi

I’m afraid Workman’s right. Yes, W is exactly that brazen. (And anyway, for that to be brazen, Bush would have to believe in democratic checks and balances in the first place.)

Recess appointment, just you wait and see.

    Investigations?

    What investigations?

I am not sure Shrub knows the meaning of the word brazen. It’s more than four letters. Betcha Laura does though.

    I will say regarding Speedy’s resignation though…

    Candi says:
First Rove and now Gonzo! The lackeys are running scared.

I wish! I can’t help but think that there’s some strategy unfolding. And how about that statement by the Village Idiot? If he came out and said the sky was green it would have probably sounded the same, “this is the God’s-honest Truth.”

You can add Senator (ID) Larry Craig to the list of Republicans that will be departing DC soon. Craig is a holly roller and fervent anti gay and was busted trolling for gay sex in an airport.

I think that purging the scene is convenient right now because it will be used to boost fundraising at a critical time. They’re merely trying to take control of the loses so they can frame their corruption as innocence in the face of “poisionous” Democrats, hoping that campaign contributions will rise.

  • Marcus

You won’t believe this but I’ve never heard of those sites. Mainly because I don’t spend all day surfing the ‘net looking for politically themed (liberal/democrat or conservative/republican) articules and essays.

But I’ll give them a look sometime.

Do you think this would be happening if Gore or Kerry got elected? Maybe, but the media would be shoving it into the abyss pretty damned quickly.

  • http://blurbomat.com blurb

    Marcus, that doesn’t surprise me.

I’m not a prognosticator. I’d like to think that things would be different under a different administration (regardless of party affiliation or ideology). There will always be political scandal. There will not always be an Attorney General who bends to the will of a monarchist president. At least that is my hope.

  • http://beckycochrane.livejournal.com Becky

Everything this administration does ties my stomach in knots. I’m always sure it just means more horrors ahead. Anyone who says they are stupid or cowardly or cornered is whistling in the wind. This is the most cunning, corrupt group of people I’ve ever seen in Washington. Their god is greed, and they have been given a blank check for seven years.

  • Marcus

Well, my life isn’t centered on the internet. That’s all.

The President isn’t perfect, none of them were, no future president ever will be. However I don’t think he’s monarchist. He certainly isn’t tryng to obtain absolut power like Hitler, Stalin and other dictators. I know that most of the people who comment here won’t agree with that. Thank God for the 1st Amendment, right? ;-)

  • Dave K

As long as we still have a 1st Amendment…

  • Marcus

Ya’ know, we really don’t live in a fascist country where everything is suppressed… People may want to think that but we don’t.

The governement (state and federal, maybe local too. who knows)could be trimmed down a tad.
