Aren’t all conservatives into Jesus? I’m at a loss to think of one who isn’t.

I am a moderate bordering on conservative and i’m agnostic/jewish.

Is it even possible for a conservative to get elected unless he is into the Jesus?

Absolutely possible, as long as said conservative shows a strong willingess and ability to further the conservative agenda. No matter how fervent the fundamentalist, when it comes to politics, power is God. If the right wing finds a strong, charismatic candidate who shows the potential to wipe out abortion, champion prayer in schools, and bomb the daylights out of brown countries under the guise of ending conflicts that we’ve quietly backed, then it won’t matter if he worships Jesus or Xenu. Of course, he’d have to be aware that he’ll get nowhere WITHOUT the massive block of evangelical crazies, so he might just have to keep the thetan business to himself. But that’s a small price to pay for holding God in the palm of your hand.

I thought a part of the problem the G.O.P. was having was with all the “touching” i.e., Larry Craig, Mark Foley, David Vitter, etc.

Let me tell you, I’m from Arkansas and you do NOT want Huckabee to be president even if he does love Jesus. He is a complete dipshit, not very bright, and he thinks God talks to him. (Yep, the man hears voices and they tell him to do some very stupid things.)

Huckabee is a better choice than Guiliani at least for the purpose of the primary. Speaking for myself, I am is one conservative who is hoping that none of the conservative candidates become president. We need to end the war.
