Dark Times

You should be seeing a darker color scheme on the site. I just updated the site for 2008. It’s phase I of the project I want to start and will likely post about over the weekend. If you are looking for stuff that used to be in the sidebar, look down at the bottom of the screen. Should be pretty helpful.

Give me any feedback in the comments and thanks for visiting.

I like it a lot, the dark background and white font make it easy on the eyes and easier to read.

Is it weird that I involuntarily said, “WHOAAAA!” out loud as the page loaded? Yes? Practically freak-like? Oh well. I like it, regardless!

    Thanks Leah & Jules!

I like the new look but miss the ‘petals’ in the logo.
Love your site and dooce too

  • Sarah

i miss the blurbomat “logo” big and bold on the masthead. Other than that, it’s sleek and the bottom part with recent posts, flickr, etc., is really terrific.

I have to disagree with Leah — white on dark turns me off.

  • monkeyaker

Wow. Different. With this darker theme I’ll be expecting more angry letters to the government and idealistic liberal ramblings.

    I’ll look forward to it.

  • monkeyaker

And by that, I meant I like it!

i like the dark, i like the greens. i don’t like the bright yellow. the footer is brilliant but it’s so.… far.…. down.…. there.…. (collapsible comments?)

maybe my eyes are too tired right now but the contrast with the dark background (which i love) is hurting my eyes. like, turn down the amp a little on them scoob.

love the orange O in the logo.

  • brent

i have to post a follow-up comment… i came in from my RSS feed straight to the post and commented, shame on me. when viewing from the main page, amazing… but the amped colors (yellow and white) still hurt my tired eyes.

I like the new look. I especially like the bottom footer area with the designs and stuff. I am a little iffy on the yellow but it seems to work. Love the dark background and the logo though. Good work!

I like it, good contrasts in colors and very readable.

Yeah, the footer has the Flair. Bring that sexiness to the header, and you have a winner.

I do think you should fill out the sidebar more… it seems lonely.

Also, all logos should take you to the index when clicked. There’s no excuse for a “home” button in the 21st century; it’s a terrible violation of everything that’s right and true in modern web design.

But, all in all, a good show, Old Man. ;-)

I just went… downshift. Oh. That’s kinda mellow.

I miss your big blurbomat logo, it is pretty. otherwise, love it.

This seems more “you.” And dark brown is one of my favorite colors. I’m all over it.

I like the new look a lot. The footer a nice design but I agree that it’s a looong way down. However, the navigation links at the top are great and I love search function.

Not completely thrilled with the colors. Looks gloomy but then I am from Western WA and EVERYTHING looks gloomy this time of year.
Definitely agree with the majority miss your usual header. Your petal character along side your name. It was just Blurb, ya know?

Hi John, I really like it! Honestly… but…
    – There are some CSS issues with the background behind “This entry was posted on Fr”. (on firefox and safari for Mac)
    – And I’d personally have the footer as a side bar, it’s a long way down to the footer and there’s a lot of space on the right not being used much (although I’m sure it’ll fill with ads soon).

    Cheers,
    Ollie

I love it, especially the bottom! The colors are darker than what I would have expected from you, but at the same time, the common elements make your site instantly recognizable and comfortable.

Here’s hoping that your post will include information about what the redesign says from your perspective or what you were hoping to achieve.

    Good work!

I love the colors and the new set up makes it MUCH easier to navigate. I don’t feel my eyes wandering while trying to look at the actual content. Good work, once again.

It’s seven o’clock on Saturday, I’m getting ready to go to work but I figure I’ll just pop onto a few sites and see what’s up. When I opened up your page I said “WOW!’ loud enough for my husband to ask what the hell was going on. I really, really like it a lot!!

  • http://ragandboneshop.net Wayne

Love the stuff at the bottom, but in all honesty the theme doesn’t appeal to me. I miss the badge/logo at the top. Also, the ads, which are so bright, seem to dominate the layout instead of just being part of the flow.

But, I’m here for the content, and will continue reading one way or another. Looking forward to see what other changes the weekend brings.

  • sybil

no me gusta. the colors took away the professionalism of the site, if that makes any sense. but i do love to read it so that won’t change.

Very, very nice work. I liked the old version, too. But this is a bit easier to read.
