The Dame

Click image to see a larger version

She’s awfully cute, despite having dusty bits that look like dandruff, but are really just crumbs and bits from wrestling around with Chuck.

Note: I’m starting to do larger images on the site, so if you click the image above, or click the title of this post, you’ll see a much larger image. I hope you dig. My inspiration is my lady, as per usual.

I really enjoy your photos, esp. when they are large. I’m just curious, how do you keep people from “right-clicking-and-save-as” the large photos here and on Heather’s website? I just had one of my photos on Flickr “borrowed” without my permission and was wondering how you guys handle copyrights?

  • http://blurbomat.com blurb

Brian, thanks! FYI, we sue the living daylights out of people with expensive and powerful lawyers.

    Joke.

We yell at people who steal and tell them not to and/or to remove the stolen photo. If somebody did it for profit and without attribution, the gloves would come off.

Good to hear!! How’s that saying go? “Always hire a rich lawyer, never buy from a rich salesman..”

  • paul in kirkland

    Great pic!

Just so you know, for some reason the picture doesn’t show up in the rss feed. Dunno why, but I thought I’d let you know.

  • http://blurbomat.com blurb

@paul in kirkland, I’ve got a plug-in to take care of it, but I don’t think I’ve got it quite right. Thanks for the heads up.

  • Amanda

What if someone right click/save as-’s your photos, rubs them vigorously on the top of their head to build up a static charge and then goes around zapping people with their index finger?

  • http://blurbomat.com blurb

@Amanda, there is a special place reserved for those people. A place where cyborg clowns and devil monkeys sing endless renditions of the worst songs ever.

Is blurbomat running on Drupal too?

  • http://blurbomat.com blurb

@Pete Dunn, nope, just a bit of WordPress hackery.

    Jon,

I’m really enjoying the new site design. The pictures you and the Wondrous Being of Light and Splendor take and post have inspired me to move up to a DSLR.

Totally weird that this is your post today. I just love you and Heather and keep up with you guys and your sweet little Leta. Anyway, last night I had a dream that I stole a photo from one of your pages and used it on my own. I was so worried I was going to get caught and was ashamed of myself. The photo was beautiful, though. I remember the colors being amazing. Good job! :)

  • Techky

Please share how you mercilessly beat the widescreeness out of WordPress. I’ve been trying to do this for awhile now. Site looks great.

I was initially going to comment about the images not appearing in the RSS feed, but it appears Paul in Kirkland has that one covered. So instead I’ll just compliment you on the design.

The new site design is really growing on me. I was dubious at first, but that is probably just my pathological fear of change. I especially like the post pages and the way the large photos look on the dark background. It is outstanding.

  • Mari

Your puppy is one of the cutest I’ve seen. Those white eyebrows are the best. How large will she be when full grown?

As for your photos, I will confess that I have used a couple as a desktop photo in the past. I used to live in Utah and I miss its natural beauty. Chicago’s great but nothing compares to the mountains.

  • Kim

Coco is such a beauty! I love this photo and the one on Heather’s of her licking poor, long suffering Chuck (I am reading a book by Stanley Coren about dog behaviour in an effort to understand my challenging but sweet Beagle, and apparently, face licking is a submissive gesture, so she is at least acknowledging that Chuck is her leader!). I was looking at a pet store the other day (I know, horrible, my dog is a shelter dog!) and I saw a mini Aussie who looked just like Coco and she NEVER stopped bouncing up and down for a second … I had a new appreciation for how brave you guys are!

  • Tracie

You both (Heather) have inspired me to take more pictures everyday and share them with my family with a short note about what’s going on. I have a new 10D and I slowly getting better. I am by no means a writer, so it won’t be interesting to anyone else to read in the whole world, but they all live far away and won’t miss out on so much. It really is the little, everyday stuff that helps you KNOW a person. It is so refreshing to read about the trials and joys of your family…you make this planet seem just a little smaller. Thanks for putting yourself out there.

The Dame is adorable, as is the Former Congressman.

    aw-w-w-w.

Would you guys ever consider opening an Etsy shop and selling prints like Dutch has done? I doubt I’m the only one who’d be interested.

  • Mari

Here’s another idea that I wonder if you have considered: doggy portraits. Seriously, there is a big market for this, and you and Heather capture great images of your dogs. I know I would love to have some wonderful, professional photos taken of my two.

Check out this animal photographer’s site:

I don’t have any affiliation with David Sutton; I’ve just been impressed by his pet photography.

She’s precious. But then, I’m not the one potty training her . . .

  • McDonie

Have you thought about including the characteristics of each photo you take, i.e. f stop, shutter speed, etc. ?

  • http://blurbomat.com blurb

@McDonie, I have thought about it. Photoshop’s terrible “Save for Web” doesn’t save the EXIF info and the “Save As” JPEG options keep the EXIF, but don’t let me see how good/bad the compression is going to be. It’s a real oversight from Adobe as far as I’m concerned. I love Lightroom, but the exports from Lightroom are problematic (unless one views this site with Safari, which 20% of visitors do, but the other 80% do not).

Great shot! It’s not showing up in your RSS feed though, just the “Red X Of Doom” – at least in Google Reader.
