“This baby is black. It is a dark, ugly thing.”

If I read this quote in a book I would logically determine that this “baby” refer to the item in question (SB48) and “black” refer to a dark, difficult, etc. The term “black” does not automatically mean a person of African American descent. However in this hypersensitive world this is what people always assume.

What if the quote was “This baby is evil. It is a dark, ugly thing.” Would we be having this discussion? Would the NAACP be calling for a resignation? I think not.

At http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/black, there is 19 definitions of “black”. I practically like “marked by disaster or misfortune: black areas of drought; Black Friday.”

I personally belive this was not a racist comment. I am not LDS. I don’t live in Utah and I am not racist.

    Just my 2 cents.

I’m sorry, but if you review Buttars’ history, there is no way that a thinking person could come away going, “Hmm, no, this was just a poor choice.” It was a poor word choice, a choice that revealed this guy’s rather overt racism.

And, come on, is there a non-racist out there who talks this way? I know it’s unprovable, but let’s just use some not-so-common sense and think about that for a while.
