Nature vs. Unnature

Taken off of 4th Street in Austin, Texas. A lot of Austin is a blend of old and new. Many residents aren’t happy with the growth, but Austin seems to be keeping its flavor just fine.

    Yeah, I know where that is, nice shot Jon! I could spend hours walking around in Austin looking at stuff.

    Next time you’re back try to find the old movie theatre, it’s an actual theatre. We saw the original three star wars movies there, it was awesome.

    I think that’s the Frost Building! We went to a real awesome Mexican restaurant on 4th last summer the morning after a bachelorette party. Bean & cheese tacos make hangovers magically disappear!

    The mexican restaurant is Las Manitas. And was part of the old/new Austin battle up until recently. That said, anyone who pines for old Austin too much needs to watch Richard Linklater’s “Slackers” again. Old Austin (if there was such a thing) was destroyed in the eighties. After that it had an awful lot of abandoned buildings and weed choked lots.

    My husband and I used to live in Austin before we decided to have children and move back to Utah to be close to family, and better employment for my husband (life plays funky tricks on those that spend the majority of their time trying to get out of Utah, just to find themselves right back here!) We LOVED it, except for the humidity, but there really isn’t a better place for live entertainment, great food and even greater people. Though, the one thing you could rely on was turning on the news and hearing the long time locals complaining about the growth, and who can blame them? When you live in such a great place, you almost want to keep it your own little secret!
