On Granville Island there are these giant boat propellers set around like art. I couldn’t decide if they were once functional or just made by artisans to look like they were once functional.

    I’m pretty sure they were functional – Granville Island was an industrial hub for the marine community up until 30 years ago. Did you see the giant chains & cranes hanging from the roof inside the Public Market?

    Functional, I’d say, definitely. If it’s marine-related and on Granville Island, it has been used. I’m from Vancouver and live in Long Beach, CA now. Thanks for the pictures – I really miss home!
