Surprise, GOP VP Pick is a Hypocrite

With nary a mention of statutory rape, the scourge of single moms (big with the GOP in the late 80s and 90s) or teen pregnancy:

Palin secured earmarks for town — Washington Post– msnbc.com

Via: reader C. Thanks!

Best bit near the bottom of the first page:

“In fiscal year 2002, Wasilla took in $6.1 million in earmarks — about $1,000 in federal money for every resident. By contrast, Boise, Idaho — which has more than 190,000 residents — received $6.9 million in earmarks in fiscal 2008.”

Then this bit from the bottom of the second page:

In addition, Palin has reversed course on at least one major earmark: After initially supporting the $223 million bridge, which was to connect the town of Ketchikan with a remote island, she reversed course last year and canceled the project because of cost overruns. Critics have dubbed the project the “Bridge to Nowhere.”

But her administration remains eager for many other earmarks.

In February, Palin’s office sent Sen. Stevens a 70-page memo outlining almost $200 million worth of new funding requests for Alaska.

GOP: Big government sucks. But give me my money.

And what does John McCain say he loathes in D.C. politics these days?

    Earmarks.

I really think he blew off the vetting process in this case. Not wise.

And I, too wondered aloud about why the 18 year old man wasn’t being charged with statutory rape. But according to everything I googled, the age of consent in Alaska is 16.

Totally agree. That’s why I’m a Yellow Dog Democrat. I would rather vote for an old yeller dog than a Republican! ;-) Dem in Hell… Collin County Texas. LOL.

This is the single serious problem surfaced about her. I don’t expect her record will turn out to be that bad, but this is _not_ the staunch anti-earmark stance advertised in her first speech.

But it is getting lost in the fuss over her daughter’s rumored and real pregnancies, and the convoluted explanations of how Obama is qualified while she isn’t. If she dials back her rhetoric to something more in tune with her record, she’ll probably be all right here.

You want to talk about seriously f-d up, Jon? I am having night terrors about McCain winning. Yup. The GOP has me so anxious it’s coming out in my subconcious. But since I’m already going to hell because I’m a Democrat, what’s another 4 or 8 years of hell on earth?

Proud to be American?!? Not a frat party, not a private party, the world stage at the olympics and the king of the free world. Didn’t he say he was “over his drinking issues?”

When Palin ran for governor, she said she would not move the capital to Anchorage. Since then, we are in what’s known as “capital creep”, wherein she is steadily moving high-ranking State positions from Juneau to Anchorage. She has said that if a bill to move the capital comes across her desk, she will sign it. Also since taking office, she hasn’t even taken up residence in Juneau so she gets paid per diem while she’s gone, which basically pays for her mortgage in Wasilla. Needless to say, Palin has not been kind to southeast Alaska.

The only good thing I can say about her is that she passed “energy relief” legislation, giving each resident $1200 to help offset rising fuel costs and when our electricity costs rose 500% in April/May due to an avalanche taking out our hydro-electric towers & forcing the city to use diesel generators for power. Oh, and I like that her husband is called “the first dude”. :)

Not a surprise, Democrats like former Governor Eliot Spitzer wallow in their own share of hypocrisy, as we all remember:

“The crusading former attorney general was brought low by the New York Times’ revelation yesterday afternoon that federal wiretaps caught him allegedly arranging an assignation with an overpriced prostitute last month at a Washington hotel. (When news of the underlying federal wiretaps caught him allegedly arranging an assignation with an overpriced prostitute last month at a Washington hotel.

The governor’s hypocrisy—and his belief that there is one set of laws for the little people and another set for Great Men like himself—is obvious. As attorney general and leader of the state’s organized crime task force, Spitzer spearheaded the prosecution of two alleged prostitution rings, according to the Times.”

@mudita,HAHAHAHA. Eliot Spitzer is a moron. And a hypocrite.

    Your point?

He’s NOT a VP selection. Just in case.

Hypocrisy abounds in politics. However, the boldness of the GOP this election cycle takes it up a notch. Palin is no Spitzer, but she’s a piece of work. And it reflects poorly on McCain who chose her to be his running mate.
