Old and New

Image

Taken of this building in downtown San Francisco. I like these kinds of crazy architectural mashups. I’m a fan of the work that I.M. Pei did with the Louvre in Paris. You can’t add to an old building without incident or somebody getting worked up. These departures seem like a great solution to a major challenge. I know that not everybody agrees and there is a slight tug of my inner purist from deep within that wants to hate architecture like this, but it’s really a great solution.

This was taken with the G9 and if you look closely enough, you can see the noise. I shot this at 80 ISO RAW and it just doesn’t have the same range as the 5D sensor. Still, a pretty good result given the cost and size of this camera.

Have you seen the Crystal addition to the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto? Insane:

kmacp beat me to it — I go to school near that building and it is pretty insane (mixed opinion on it among Torontonians, though). Jon, I hope you and Heather make it to Toronto sometime because there are many such mashups worthy of your camera. :)

Oh Jon! How could you? As a big fan of Pei in general, I actually cried when I saw what he did to the Louvre is a travesty.

On a side note, I have to share a story with you — just spent 2 weeks in Italy most of which time was spent with my camera around my neck. I giggled at myself when thought “What would Jon do?” when framing some of my photos. I failed miserably at getting exciting, dynamic shots, but got a new definition for the “WWJD?” term. And left no wine or gelato behind.

    It was a victory.

Let’s pretend I know grammar, okay?

“.… what he did to the Louvre. It is a travesty”.

    Thank you. That is all.

Daniel Liebeskind designed the CJM. I only know that because Ben was invited to participate in the building’s opening. (I’m very proud of him!) http://flickr.com/photos/spenceke/2561826157/
