I wish I could vote for the next US President… but I am Canadian and for some reason not allowed:) This gives me hope though, that perhaps THIS time, we can all sigh a collective sigh and say “whew” they picked the right guy… I was in shock last time when Bush won, again…

The leader the American people choose has ripple effects through the world. The U.S is such a powerful force in the world, and George Bush did as much damage to that power and influence as any one leader could do.

Here in Canada, we are directly affected by the U.S., our economy relies on the States since we are a commodity based country and our largest client is also our neighbour (sorry that would be neighbor to you!) and look at Britain, they are also in economic woes at present due to the US money woes…

Sorry I am rambling here and all I was wanting to say is that if it looks like Utah may have some Obama supporters then maybe, just maybe Obama will get in and I (and most fellow Canadians) will be thrilled for you and for us!

Two more papers that endorsed President Bush in 2004 backed Barack Obama on Sunday and both papers hail from Texas: the Houston Chronicle and Austin American Statesman. The Denver Post, (which had backed George W. Bush in 2004 and is owned by Republican-leaning William Dean Singleton,) endorsed Barack Obama for president on Friday. So did the Chicago Sun-Times, Kansas City Star, Southwest News-Herald (Ill.) and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. And to top it off: another Bush-backing in 2004, The Salt Lake Tribune. Obama now leads 58–16 in editorial endorsements.

    And now Colin Powell’s endorsement.

Thank the gods, Obama is going to win this election. Huzzah for the little guy (and girl)!

I hate that article. I am an avid Obama supporter and loved him back when he was Minority Leader, so dont get me wrong. I hated the article bc they seemingly turned against McCain bc he didnt put Romney on the ticket. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

I hate you Trib editorial board. Stop speaking out your ass.

I woke up this morning to find that my Bryan/College Station, TX local newspaper, The Eagle, has also endorsed Obama! They said “In the past 50 years, The Eagle has never recommended a Democrat for president.” I’m glad they got this one right.

    Awesome.

I think one of the most impressive endorsements Obama has garnered so far is believe it or not, from the Chicago Tribune. Sure it’s his “hometown” paper but that didn’t help Stevenson who was an Illinois Governor nor any of the other impressive democratic candidates over the years. In fact, it is the paper’s first democrat endorsement . ever.

I also hope for a purply state! But, hell, if BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS has a paper endorsing Obama, will I even be able to hope for — dare I say it — Texas going blue?

The Seattle Times is Seattle’s conservative paper, they’ve endorsed Obama.

David Brooks wrote a really good piece on Obama a while back:

Oops, forgot to note that I don’t agree with the last two paragraphs of the Brooks piece. Brooks is a Republican and I guess felt he had to get a couple of digs in.

Quote: More than any single factor, McCain’s bad judgment in choosing the inarticulate, insular and ethically challenged Palin disqualifies him for the presidency.

Inarticulate, insular and ethically challenged? There are so many more adjectives they’re missing!

My mouth dropped open when I read that! I lived in SLC for 3 years and just can’t imagine. But I have to say that makes me very very very happy that the Tribune got it right!

Let’s not count the proverbial chickens before they hatch. Polls have a funny way of overestimating differences sometimes, and while I think Obama has this one in the can, I’m not holding my breath, just yet. Something called ‘social acceptability bias’ may be artificially distorting the poll numbers.

Sorry for the Debbie Downer, but I think in all of our hope and dreams to rid the White House of the GOP, we need to keep in mind that they could win it for another four years.

Wow, I am surprised to hear that. Almost as surprised as I was to see them use the phrase “gobs of cash” in the endorsement!

I think it’s encouraging, certainly, and momentum seems to be running in Obama’s favor but, like JFK, I’m not willing to call it a done deal, for much the same reason.

Never thought I’d see THAT in SLC to be honest! But well done…perhaps the tide is turning! I’d vote for Obama if I could (British…surely we get some sort of ‘little brother’ vote? LOL)

    Fingers very, very firmly crossed.

    @Carey

Yeah, as a lifelong Chicagoland resident I’m ashamed to admit that I didn’t know of the Tribune’s Republican presidential leanings until recently.

I just assumed that one of the biggest papers in one of the Bluest states in the country would naturally lean towards the inclinations of its citizens.

Can’t believe this is the first time that they actually did.
