    WE DID IT!

    Oh, wow.
I am so impressed and proud and overwhelmed. I could cry. I HAVE cried.

    We did it.
    We DID it.

Let’s not stop here, okay guys?
    You heard the man.
We’ve still got a lot of work to do.

and blurb, your tweets have kept me thoroughly entertained this evening. You rock that sparkling champagne. Let’s all have that drink for President (!) Obama (!)!

    Ahhhhh!

It’s a feel good night, isn’t it? I have been teary-eyed while watching CNN.

I’m SO HAPPY for you and Heather, and for all my American friends – what a milestone. What a night! (It’s 5.36am in the UK right now, I think I need sleep now – LOL)

Congratulations, and I can’t wait to read yours and Heather’s posts about it all. Enjoy the champagne. I’m thinking Heather just might be tempted to do the ‘told you so’ dance when she sees her family next…? :-D

Like another poster said earlier, for the first time in my life, I am so proud of America that I want to fly an American flag at my house.

    America, tonight you rock!

  • ska1ser

Me too! I loved his speech, it was all about the voters, and how we can help him! I love it!!!!

I can’t wait now for tomorrow, I want to know who he’ll have in his cabinet, and I can’t wait for Jan 20th! It’s such an exciting time!

  • johnmayersquare

way to go, USA! you done good. as a concerned Canadian, I have to say I’m proud and relieved.

I’ve been bawling in fits and starts and had to apologize to one US idealist because a month or so ago I joked that Obama was just another Frank Capra movie, a fantasy of American politics.

Now I’m not so sure what’s not possible. The real world is cruel, this I know for sure. Still, I have this quiet hope for humanity. I want to believe.

I mean…I have no illusions about governments and business. The crooked lobbyists are still there and Obama’s part of a shitty system, but there’s something different Barack. He’s not like any person I’ve seen before or recently on the political scene. I don’t believe he’s just a charmer. I believe he’s sincere. I also think he knows what he’s up against. Maybe I’ll be proved wrong in the coming months, but I’m very happy about this choice. Although I held some support for Hillary, I’m glad it’s him and not her after Bush.

I may be naive. It’s difficult to be persuaded by one person when you’ve been betrayed so many times over years and years. But my instincts say this guy holds promise. That he’ll really try to live up to what he says he stands for. One man has limits, but clearly whatever he’s got to offer is contagious. I mean, even formerly racist shitbags and hard core republican loyalists voted for him. Their eyes have cleared a little…they’re moving forward. This gives me hope.

I’m a Canadian and like the vast majority of Canadians we are thrilled and proud of America this night.

    YES WE DID!

  • diane_sherman

YES WE CAN! and YES WE DID!

I live in North Carolina, and while the election was called long before our state ever finished tallying votes, I’m SO HAPPY to report that MY STATE TURNED BLUE!

I’ve never felt so proud or so inspired. God Bless America!

    Thank you, Barack Obama!

    WOW!

I think I may need to get Direct TV now. That information porn you flashed makes me weak in the knees.

WOW! I am excited too to see who our new president chooses to work with him.

I am excited to see what we do now.

    WOW!

  • SuzieQ

Also from NC…HALLE DAMN LUJAH!! Been sipping champagne and loving every minute of the night!!

AMERICA IS BACK ON THE RIGHT TRACK!!

  • Andrea

    Congratulations!

I, for one, am not (or was not) an Obama supporter. I have my reasons, but I won’t get into them here. Anyway, he is not someone that I am afraid of becoming President even though I happen to be Republican. I truly hope he can change this nation for the better, and I hope he’s successful. I look forward to seeing what change he can bring and I am optimistic about our future.

Congratulations, again to all of you Obama supporters! You let your voice be heard and there’s nothing more admirable on a day like today. :)

As glad as I am that Obama won, I am very disappointing and even crushed at the blow that was struck against gay rights today in California (likely), Florida, Arizona and Arkansas.

  • Joanne

Awesome photos of the Obama family at http://www.blacksnob.blogspot.com. Also just an awesome blog.

  • Elaine in the UK

Great job, America! Seems like the whole world is grateful and hopeful.

Many thanks, Jon, for your posts and the comments here, all of which have kept me ‘in touch’ with the thoughts and feelings of people in the US far better than the ‘official’ media here in the UK.

And I even forgive my American daughter-in-law for texting me at what was 4.00am in the UK! It was news I was very happy to receive ;-D

  • Becky

I am proud, too, Jon. And Andrea, I wish I could hug you.

  • J. Bo

I remember tearing up a bit listening to Clinton’s first inauguration (Maya Angelou’s “rock, tree, river” poem, specifically), but this is NINE BAZILLION TIMES BETTER.

I called my niece and told her “You remember this night, missy. THIS IS HISTORY.”

Every so often, amid all the political meanness and shit, we actually DO shine as a nation.

P.S. John McCain deserves a kudo for his gracious concession speech. He hasn’t always acted on his best nature in this campaign, but he bowed out like a human being.

  • brebolivar

I second the wonderful McCain speech commenters – I’m proud of both of them for being gentlemen.
I’m excited to have voted for a democrat for the first time in my life, and seen him win!

  • http://www.blessourhearts.blogspot.com Ms. Moon

My God. Can you believe what a beautiful first family we’re about to have? I am just stunned with pride. This changes everything.

  • nobody

    Congratulations.

Personally, my focus turns from the reasons to worry about an Obama Administration, to the reasons to hope for it.

I hope that he has the wisdom to guide us to prosperity, the integrity to strengthen our free institutions, and the resolve to preserve our security.

It was an honor to support John McCain. His concession speech was a shining example of grace. For all his flaws, I cannot imagine a braver man in politics.

God bless America, and its President-elect Barack Obama.
