These look important, especially against the snow in the late afternoon. I’m wondering if I can come back in spring and pan for precious metals. Once the dog urine around the stakes dries up.

There’s something I LOVE about this shot. I know it’s really simple, but it’s like… I dunno, I get a “Pixar inspiration” vibe and a Gumby vibe and a “giants playing in the clouds” vibe. NONE of those things relate to precious metals, but there’s something childish and epic about these colorful markers in the snow.
I’m sure that makes no sense whatsoever, but it’s what I thought of…

In the small version I thought this was a pic of clouds and i was wondering WTF? Either way, very cool.

I too thought it was clouds and you were sitting in a really good spot to get such a good shot… WOW… I think this is a really neat shot, and now I understand it’s snow.. but really at first glance.. totally and completely thought it was nice fluffy clouds!

Count me in as another person that thought it was clouds. I wonder what playing with a shift-tilt technique on this might yield.

Did this remind anyone else of the twin towers?

No, but I could see how someone would. Like a really artsy take on them.

PS: Unrelated, but you’ve done a really nice job updating the WordPress code for threaded commenting. I spent a couple hours doing that to my custom theme and ended up really not liking it, but you make it look so elegant!

Thanks! I spent a bit of time yesterday tweaking. I think the borders make it easier to follow. It’s a bit of a bear to wrangle, though.
I’m glad somebody noticed!

Follow-up thought: the one thing I don’t like about the new threaded comments is that the author isn’t notified of a reply! The blog owner is, but not the commenter. If email is required, doesn’t that seem like a logical (and fairly simple) thing?
(Oh, and that’s totally a WordPress thing, not a you thing!)

If those are what I think they are, they’re location markers for sewer pipe ends. was this taken near a construction site or an empty lot waiting to be graded?

great shot! add me to the list of folks who, at first glance, thought this was a photo of clouds & wondered what the hell is that sticking out of them!
