Early Holiday Gift: Woman v Tape

So I bought one of those fancy pants new Apple Magic Mouse devices. I really like it. I thought Heather would like it due to her aversion to cords. I bought her one:

This was inspired by another video on TAUW.com. I saw this video after I had endured the de-taping of the Magic Mouse. I think it’s one of the better pointing devices Apple has released.

Not to be left out, Chuck wanted me to talk to him about the Magic Mouse as well:

Bluetooth is devil magic to dogs.

I look forward to your review. I tried this out in the Apple Store and while I liked it, the rough edges bugged me. I have a MacBook Pro and the rough edges annoy me there as well, but not enough to not have one :)

Your definition of “rough edges” and mine are different. My magic mouse is like a big stick a butta.

Heather has good modeling hands. :P

What’s that white line on Chuck’s nose?

LOL there is no rational reason for your Chuck interviews to be so entertaining, BUT THEY ARE.

  • Lesley

That’s a Rolls Royce mouse alright.

Re Chuck. I think he’s interested in edible mice of the chocolate variety.

    Hi Jon.
I got one of these bad boys on sunday and had very high hopes. BUT upon opening it ( which took me longer than Heather AND the bottom panel popped off while I was trying to separate the Magic Mouse from the white cradle) I was dissappointed in it’s luggy-ness and skipping. Even at the “default” settings of fast scrolling and tracking, I felt it was sluggish and did not respond as fast I it should. THAT and the fact that the MM is so flat it cramped my hand and was not as intuitive. THAT being said, I do really like the scrolling features and still think it will just take some time to get used to it. I have upgraded to 4GB more memory in my workhorse Mac Pro — hoping that helps. for now, back to Mighty Mouse. I am looking forward to your report. Thanks for listening.

Are you running Snow Leopard (10.6) or still on Leopard (10.5)?

I think it does better under 10.6, but that’s just me. The scrolling is a home run on 10.6. Just like the iphone in Safari and Finder windows.

I’m gonna use it awhile before I do a review.

        Hi Jon,
        Yeah, on Snow.
Also, like Heather, I think I spoke a little to soon.
I have found that NOT using a mousepad makes the Magic Mouse act appropriately. My computer desk at home is wood-old-chipped. New desk at work is Herman Miller. Totally smooth.
SO, I already have better feelings about it.

It is still clunkier but like you mentioned, the scrolling IS a home run.

        Thanks.
        Dave

Apple should use your video in their marketing campaign. I think tons of people would want to buy something that was a “good looking piece of shit”, right? LOL

And I absolutely love Chuck’s Spock impression. Did you teach him that or did he just figure it out on his own? Live long and prosper, Chuck.

    • http://blurbomat.com blurb

Yeah and now she LOVES the mouse, so she spoke a little soon. As per usual.

Chuck is a zen master. I think it’s in his genes. Because this house is anything but zen.

i swear, your chuck segments are inspired. i so wish i had thought of this with josh.

I HATEHATEHATE tape for this very reason, I’m a disaster with the stuff, that and saran wrap — that was painful to watch…you are indeed a patient man.

  • J. Bo

As an editor, I feel compelled to tell you that, when used as an adjective, “fancy-pants” should be hyphenated.

  • http://www.poprockcandymountain.com Amanda

That is a bad looking piece of shit. *snort*

I’m not too proud to admit that the packaging stumped me a little bit too–especially the part when I finally get it out of the clear plastic pod. I seriously thought—just for a second—that the lower plastic part of the packaging was part of the mouse.

But it is a good lookin’ piece of shit, isn’t it?

  • Rich

I’m getting one of those tomorrow. It is attached to the new 21 inch IMac. Hoping to God this mouse is better than the Mighty Mouse. I had 4 of those, and finally had to buy a Logitech as there were too many issues with them.
So, is this mouse worth it? I would not have gotten one except I needed a new computer.

Can’t wait to try it out, not excited about having to put all my old stuff on my new computer though.

  • nobody

You’d think a guy without mutually opposable thumbs would be a little more excited about this thing.

“Think you want a Magic Mouse, Chuck?”

    Chuck raises eyebrow.

Too damn cute! I love his views on technology :D
