Mayan Ruin

Image

This is a Mayan ruin of a small temple. The day I shot this, Heather and I had an ongoing discussion about the merits of shooting on cloudy days. She held that our photos from this day would be aided by the clouds. I agreed but still wanted the drama of the sun. And the more of the heat. For this shot, the clouds add a nice touch of drama, so I’m giving it up to Heather on this one.

On our way out to this park we drove a rented golf cart. I turned in the seat and as I did, my right contact lens blew out of my eye before I could bring my hand up to stop or catch it. I had glasses as a back up, but I’m wondering about buying a couple of sets of contact lenses so I always have a back up. The issue that has prevented me from doing this in the past was the cost of the lenses. My right eye has a donor cornea (I have keratoconus) and the contact lens for it is a custom one. While glasses help a little bit, my right eye has always been, even pre-cornea transplant, difficult to correct. When I finally got contacts as a teenager, I could finally see out of both eyes. However, one eye is near-sighted and one far-sighted when corrected.

Time for a visit to the opthalmologist.

I use daily disposables now (which probably isn’t an option for you, given your issues), but back when I used more traditional lenses, I always ordered 2 or 3 sets at a time, just in case. Probably as a result of the fact that I first started wearing contacts at age 10, and my mother was ALWAYS convinced that I was going to lose them. Which I never did, until I was actually an adult.

I knew y’all were in Mexico when I saw that sea. Beautiful.
