Where Pay for Chief Executives Tops the Company Tax Burden

This is great news. If you are a CEO in the United States. Verizon’s CEO was paid $18.1 million in 2010. Verizon got a $709 million tax refund.

“On the other hand, ample evidence suggests that C.E.O.’s and their corporations are expending considerably more energy on avoiding taxes than perhaps ever before — at a time when the federal government desperately needs more revenue to maintain basic services for the American people.”

And the GOP can’t stop yammering about TARP.

Had a long rambling fbook debate some time ago where a right-winger argued that all the money companies save/earn–including from not paying taxes, which was how it started in the first place–makes its way to shareholders by way of dividends and stock payout and performance. The tax savings, he then argued, is far more beneficial to the economy because it goes to people rather than the government. I couldn’t help but conclude how nice it must be to be rich, as he earns a very sizable income. Must be nice.
