Wilco Tiny Desk Concert at NPR

I know that it’s technically no longer “hip” or “in” or “cool” to like Wilco. I could give a shit. I really love their new album. Love it. I especially love “Whole Love”. The bassline is stellar.

I love this office set from Wilco that was lovingly shared with me by my boy McQueen:

I just realized that I used the word “love” about 17 times in this post.

Wilco is to me what Radiohead is to Heather.  (although I do worship Radiohead.)  I am pretty much a dorky Wilco superfan and I have seen Wilco or Tweedy about 10 times live, and cannot wait for this album tour!  major amounts of WHOLE LOVE for it, SEVENTEEN times in fact!!!  and how effing cool are the Tiny Desk Concerts?!  check out Jakob Dylan’s from last year.  so bitchen.  glad you shared this!  wow, that was a lot of exclamation points.  :-) yay Wilco!!  I am UNCOOL!

Jay Bennett was a good friend of my husband’s family, and he just can’t listen to Wilco anymore without feeling awful.  After the way they treated Jay, I can’t really blame my husband.

Watching the documentary I Am Trying to Break Your Heart was particularly difficult because the tension between Bennett and Tweedy was so visibly acrimonious. I can’t blame your husband, either. The first time I watched that film, it felt like there was a big power struggle going on in the band and Tweedy won.

The personal stuff aside, Wilco makes some great music.

“I like the new Wilco song as much as the next plaid-wearing 401(k) holder…”

This was my favorite comment so far about the new album.  They’re not young cool anymore.  They’re seasoned veteran cool.  (And Jeff Tweedy appears, uh, very well seasoned in this clip.)  I used to see them play at a small club in Champaign, Illinois, not long after they’d turned into Wilco from Uncle Tupelo, which means I must be old, too.
