Further Microsoft Bullshit
August 6th, 2003Apologies to the non-geek readers. And a special shout out to people still trapped using Lotus Notes as a “productivity” application.
I’m still fuming about Microsoft’s claim of adding Exchange support to Entourage. More people talking about it on MacWindows.com. DJ Blurb is included in the irate email area. I’m glad to see so many people being vocal about this. Ultimately, I doubt Microsoft will do anything about it.
The market is open for a hack or for Apple to step in.
Prior to the Office 10.1.4 upgrade, Entourage could get mail from Exchange servers, provided the server had IMAP enabled. All they’ve done is added what appears to be meager hooks into the Calendar and Address parts of Exchange. And from what I can tell, haven’t done a very good job. Even Outlook 2001 in Classic is a better Exchange client than Entourage.
I’m certain that this will be on par with the Word 6 debacle 8 years ago. It took Microsoft 3 years to finally release a usable version of Word. I remember it being 2000 and people were still using Word 5, because they were so wary to upgrade after being burned by Microsoft.
I’m praying to Steve Jobs right now that Mail will support Exchange hooks. o

There must be a reason for them not including this, otherwise it’s just blatant stupidity, no? Not that blatant stupidity is a foreign concept for Microsoft, but I find it hard to believe they’d be *this* ignorant.
Or is it laziness? In that case, perhaps they’re training some of the folks who work for Macromedia and QuarkXpress as well. ;]
Microsoft has no soul. All of this comes from a lack of it. They obviously sold it to someone really bad in order to achieve their immense power.
notes. a daily experience for me. sigh.
One reason (conjecture) Microsoft did not include exchange support in Entourage is due to the wonderful job they’ve done integrating everything into Windows XP (especially those virus’). The code for exchange protocol goodness lays like a thin sheen of shit across their window and there’s just no way they can scrape it all together and fling onto OS X
Well, being a Notes developer, I’d have to say Notes rocks the email mic.
One of the best reasons: Domino servers are never affected by virus’ aimed at a Micro$oft hole, if set up properly.
Notes is in no way is a productivity application, but a knowledge management system, at best.
Whoever is providing your Notes solution dictates the benefit Notes is able to provide.
