i thought dooce took this picture.

  2. dooce says:

    no i didn’t.

  3. dr. dave says:

Nice. I like that the wings are totally invisible. It’s kinda fun just to stare at it and pretend that its wings are really just folded up and it’s kinda just “levitating” there in mid-air without flapping or anything.

    Look! It’s a Hoverbird!

Ok…well… maybe it’s just fun for ME.

    Dr. Dave

  4. OhareGuy says:

    I like the Slightly “nuh-uh”-ish-ness of Dooce’s “no i didn’t” ….heh

  5. Candice says:

Just wonderful. The Blurbodoocery continues to impress me with its collective photographic awesomeness.

    óC.

  6. Lisa says:

Nice. Makes me want to put my feeder up.

  7. sheyna says:

    oops. sorry about that.

  8. DG says:

    >>>Nice. Makes me want to put my feeder up.

    Is that a euphemism?

  9. HazelEyedPisces says:

I enjoy looking through the eyes of another and finding that I am awed by the same things as they are. Keep up the great photos, Blurb!

  10. Chanelbaby says:

Where are the poor bird’s wings? Have they been amputated? Alas cruel world!

Oh wait. It’s just a REALLY FUCKING GOOD PHOTOGRAPH.

    V. cool.

  11. Angie says:

No Dr. Dave, it was fun for me too.

    Here’s a thinker:

What if the hummingbird is still and it’s the FEEDER that’s hovering.

    OOOO

    heh

  12. Emily says:

There is something so meditative about hummingbirds. Moving so fast but also seeming to be still. I am not sure what it is but it is all very OM to me.

  13. Elegant Goose says:

    >>>itís kinda just ìlevitatingî there in mid-air without flapping or anything

With its feet sticking out like that it sorta looks like it hopped up, wings still folded. I think it probly made a little “boioioing” noise as it hopped.

And Dooce, didn’t you have a *similar* photo?

  14. dj blurb says:

So how it works is, we only have one killer sweet camera in our family. Typically, Heather and I will travel together. We take pictures of things. Sometimes it’s of the same subject. All I know is that I”ve wanted to post this image for a long time and haven’t. If you think it’s derivative, please accept my apologies. If that still doesn’t do it for you, you can call the complaint line at 1-800-EAT SHIT. Joke!

Seriously, it’s not a competition, just a “wow, nice shot, you should post that.”

  15. krissy pants says:

She did have a similar photo…i did some ëvestigating.

It was on Wednesday, 08 September 2004 entitled Perch

  16. dj blurb says:

And I totally stole this from her and I totally should be scourged.

  17. maxigumee says:

Oh, wow. That’s awesome! It looks like it’s just jumping onto it! :P

  18. Lauren says:

not shameless at all. All of the Armstrong Collaborative Work deserves to be shown as many times as possible. Keep on clicking!

  20. dooce says:

jon is hot and he takes better pictures than i do. i usually follow his lead. we saw this hummingbird together and took pictures of it together. his turned out better because he is better with the camera than i am. i am learning from him.

that is all. it needed to be said.

  21. CursingMama says:

Whats up with the who took the photo crap? From what I know of Jon he is a classy, kind guy and would never take credit for something Docce did.
I think its an awesome photo – and I love these little birds. Did you know they can fly backwards?

  22. beachgal says:

I love how you titled it approach, and it looks like the little guy is just about to land on the feeder. What an awesome picture. I love hummingbirds. They are so neat, with their ability to just hover around and pose for such great pics. Hmm…wonder if he knew he was posing for the internet? ;-)

  23. Jeff says:

    Mean little buggers.

  24. Lori D says:

Oh! A Rubythroat! Every time I try to take a picture of the hummingbirds at my feeder they turn out blurry. I suppose it’s the exponentially cheaper camera that won’t just take the damn picture when I tell it to. Beautiful photo.

    And the wood was green!

  25. cindi says:

if only i could figure out how to do that lovely ’sharp up front – blurry in the back’ look with my photos. you and heather are so talented – thanks for the pictures!
