2004 Year in Review
December 31st, 2004Things that shaped my year:
- The Birth of Leta
- Learning about and dealing with postpartum depression
- Nearly losing Heather
- Learning what really matters and it’s not salary or insurance
- Invoking the Family Leave Act to help Heather
- The Launch of 3hive
- Taking a Doctor-ordered trip to San Francisco
- Getting food poisoning for the first time ever
- Meeting the blogerati
- Buying a great camera (having a tool that helps you hone your skill is invaluable)
- Redesigning Dooce.com and diving very deep into Movable Type
- Working through deep-seated guilt about divorce
- Attempting to be more open, while still maintaining a sense of self
Happy New Year!! Here’s to 2005 being better than 2004. o

So I looked through your flickr photos and noticed the halcyon one. You know the fabulously pink-haired one? His was one of the very first blogs I read and it trips me out how seemingly unrelated people come together on the internet.

The FMLA has been a god-send to me more than once.
And the two of you are making me crave the D70 badly. I hope it comes down in price or I find something that meets my needs with a bit less of a hit to the budget.
Happy new year to all at the blurbodoocery!

Happy New Year to you too, DJ Blurb! Thanks for getting your D70, so that I could show the pics you and Heather took to my husband so that WE could get one.

Something that shaped my year:
Reading about a man in Utah who had the love, courage and honor to step up to the plate and put his wife and daughter first thru a very trying time.
Happy New Year to the Blurbodoocery.

The D70 was way beyond my level of geekiness, and far, far above the budget. We still have two sons in college and are determined they should not have to take out any student loans.
So for Christmas, I got a Minolta XG dImage–a teensy weensy digital that has been re-furbished from the factory and is just about what I can use without my mind breaking.
The learning curve for me–I am struggling and fighting frustration. Getting the first picture (of the sleeping cat) into the computer took the whole afternoon.
Jon and Heather, I salute your technology, your intellect, and your individual ability to capture worthy subjects in photographs.
Thank you for sharing such talent with us on the Internet.
I will strive towards Excellence in the coming year.

Thank God (Clinton and Labor unions for pushing it through) for the FMLA act! It has helped a lot of folks. Now if only it were paid family leave like in Eurpoe…

Sounds like a successful year with more than a good deal ofgrowth and courage. May 2005 being glorious for all of you with more ups than downs.
I agree with becky…you and Heather make the D70 sound better and better every day. Can a realtive newbie learn on it?

I’ve never been happier that a family I do not know is happy and healthy. I wish you all an excellent, rocking, party filled 2005.

You fail to mention the lost BC Boyz weekend in Denver.
January 3rd, 2005 at 5:31 pm
porkchop, I think we’d all be better off if we forgot the Saturday daylight portion of that weekend. It wasn’t until the Asian soup that I started to feel human again.

“Working through deep-seated guilt about divorce”
honey, our morman upbringing can really fuck us up. I’m still having a hard time accepting the fact that masturbation is not a sin.
