Fire Training

1997. Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina. 35mm cross-processed.
This was outside of what appeared to be a training building for firefighters. Or maybe it was somebody’s street watching chair.

Given that you snapped that one in SC, I’d be willing to bet it was originally on the porch and later demoted to the yard.

I live just down the road from Sullivan’s; I know exactly the building you’re talking about. And now I’m strangely compelled to go and see if the chair’s still there. (Given that it’s SC, it probably is.)
Either way, love it. Love that it could be any era, any time of year. Love all the light.

All your x-process stuff totally makes me want to get out there & do some myself.
Jon, have you ever experimented with any other alternative proccesses? I’d love to see a Cyanotype or Polaroid transfer you’ve done. I’ve never had much luck with either method.

Like that pic. Evokes Sanford & Son for me. BTW: Shouldn’t your whores list include Kofi Annan? Look into it. He’s well deserving.

or it could have been outside a frat house - I remember seeing something very similar outside “Frat Row” when I did my grad work at the University of Cincinnati.
The best part was the frat pledge who was attempting to “water” the ring of burned grass around the chair.
Beautiful work on the photos, Jon.

Sadly I have to admit…. we own a chair just like that. We have always called it the green ugly chair. All our friends know and love this comfortable chair and many have fallen asleep in it. Don’t worry I didn’t pay money for it.

I’m just sorry that you had to venture here to SC during your life. It’s an event that I wish upon noone. I love the picture though. Like Karen, we too have a chair that looks oddly similar to that.
