Needle Wires
April 22nd, 20051997. Space Needle, Seattle Washington. 35mm cross-processed.
This was in the middle of a nasty squall. I didn’t have proper rain gear and braved the walkway outside anyway. I feared for my life, but not before taking a couple of shots that I really dig. And I’m hoping that when you read this paragraph, you use the early Bill Murray voice from Meatballs or Stripes.

Were also you walking with a sombrero full of peanuts?

Suddenly, I seem to be channeling a foreign speaking person. Gah.

Sounded like a cross between Bill Murray’s and Johnny Depp’s versions of Hunter S. Thompson, to me.
As for the photo . . . I almost have vertigo just from looking at it. Very cool.

Have you seen the NY Times article about digital cameras (including the D70)?

My entire senior year of high school (1989) my friend Jon and I spoke to each other exclusively in the Bill-Murray-as-greenskeeper-Carl-Spackler-voice from Caddyshack. It was nearly pathological. But Bill Murray has that effect on people, doesn’t he?

Nice memories there. Used to work on the production teams for NW Folklife and Bumbershoot, both held in Seattle Center. One of my duties was to go up the needle and “chart” weather patterns and winds when there might be bad weather coming in.
That meant standing up there on purpose during squalls and such. Nowadays we have live radar feeds via internet weather sites, which is a lot more comfortable.

I’ve lived within spitting distance of the space needle for most of my 36 years of life and have never been there. Looks like I might need to go.

I got engaged up there. Sniff, sniff.
