The crane has the Port of Seattle's symbol on it. <a href="http://www.portseattle.org/." rel="nofollow">http://www.portseattle.org/.</a>

That's the industrial & primarily Latina South Park neighborhood yonder. Residents of South Park have complained about a toxic chlorine-like odor making people sick for years. The biggest suspect is a cement plant (seen through the 1st crane).

On a clearer day you probably would have seen Mt. Rainer looming in the distance to the left.

PS: Pike Peak Market??? <a href="http://www.pikeplacemarket.org/." rel="nofollow">http://www.pikeplacemarket.org/.</a>

I tried zooming in on the container on the front crane, and the lettering on the side kinda looks like "Port of Seattle". If it is, it's likely just south of downtown, looking toward the Duwamish River.

I'm fairly sure it's Charleston.......taken from I-26 going up towards North Charleston and the paper factory. Think I've driven past them on the way to the airport....but then again, I could be completely wrong. The thing is, there's a very distinct smell when you drive up in that direction (apparently it's the pulp from the aforementioned paper factory) and when I saw this picture, I immediately thought of it. So....that's just my line of thinking. Hope so anyway; I'd hate to think I conjured up that repugnant smell for nothing.

unless there are cranes in Alameda that I've never noticed, this isn't Oakland. you can see our cranal area on [ta-da] google maps

hm. of course now that i look at the picture again, for it to have been that angle, you should have been able to see alot more mountainous landscape in the distance.

True. For it to be Seattle, it would have had to have been taken from a ferry (The Bremerton?). This would be the view looking South/East if you were in the Sound, roughly even with the new Kingdome - towards the industrial area and some of the Boeing plants (of course I've not lived in the area for nearly 8 years now, so my memory could be failing me.)

And since I've never been to Oakland (or at least not near the water) nor Charleston, I am most probably mistaken. Either way, it reminded me of Seattle and made me miss the Pike Peak Market. Right about now the farmers' stalls should be an absolute riot of colors - and all those dahlias! I do miss the dahlias by the bundle.

Not that anyone's asking, but I lived in Oakland and Alameda for 2 yrs, and live in Seattle now - and either way the docks are north of considerable skyline (water should be on the west side for either), although not downtown skyline.

So my money's on Charleston, sight unseen.

One of the local TV stations led into its weather segment with a high-speed sunset cam that showed the Big Red Deer Cranes dipping and feeding and dipping and feeding. Makes me miss the Bay Area.

I like the verdegris effect - I know doodly about photography, but those cranes are bright orange-red in both Oakland and Seattle, and other things you've tagged as cross-processed are similarly blue-green for red, so maybe? But I suppose there might be filtering or other effects that do likewise.

Two cents' worth doesn't get what it used to, does it?
