The Actor

May 17th, 2005

Heather is a great imitator and actor. She has an ability to impersonate my mother with detail I’ve never seen. It’s amazing. Heather does it in a good spirited way, and it never fails to bring a smile.

I used to “act” during my high school years. The less we talk about this, the better. I also was in several bands, so being in front of people and being “on” was never a big deal to me. I had four older siblings who loved to have me come in and perform for their friends. I staged elaborate death scenes with impeccable timing. I fear for my contribution to my daughter’s gene pool.

Leta has started to mimic us in ways that I didn’t expect for some years. Behold:

I am sticking my tongue out at her and laughing.

She looks like she is fitting into your family quite nicely.
I wonder- will she be constipated like her mom or regular like her dad?

Just wait another year or so, when she begins repeating EVERYTHING you say. . . I call my 2.5 year old “Pete-n-Repeat. . . “

it starts benignly with the tongue. in only 3 more years, words will come out of her mouth that will piss you off …before you realize that it’s something you say all the time.

Just wait…it won’t be long til she comes home, sticks out her tongue, and the shiny metal piercing glints in the light.
For the record, my mother didn’t bat an eyelid when I came home and did that. Even my 84-year-old grandmother was pretty impressed with it. That kind of gene pool is the best kind :-)

Ah, yes, let the mimicing begin. Actually, this would be a good time to start teaching her various funny things that she will pull out of her repertoire at the most inoportune times. They’re perfect little mimes at this age!

What a cutie… Yes, this is where it all begins. Remember this moment when she pulls out all the stops and shows grandma and grandpa what she’s learned. All of it.

It’s funny to me that you are more concerned with what your acting abilities (or lack there of) my have done while mixing with Heather in the making of Leta when far more important John issues like.. um, I don’t know.. the “must kill the bowling ball” gene… seriously, I think that you and Heather are THE BEST and I enjoy the little glimpse into your lives from time to time. Leta is adorable - no matter what CraZy genes she’s made up of.

My daughter is about a month older than Leta. It’s cute to see my child progress then get online and see the new things your child is doing. I called my daughter a dork yesterday. She spent the rest of the day following me saying “dick” as loud as she could. God help us all.
