Post Vacation

June 7th, 2005

Calling wedding trips “Vacations” is kind of a misnomer. Weddings are busy things, even if you don’t have a thing to do with the wedding besides being friends with the bride and groom. There are meals to eat with groups and in our case, southern customs to attend to. We were well fed, enjoyed everything, got sunburned and saw some of the most amazing southern architecture.

Beaufort (link goes to flickr slideshow) is a beautiful town, despite our first night misgivings. We went to a fast food joint because we were at the hypoglycemic stage of short sentences and grumpiness. The “don’t talk to me, just get me food” stage was closing in fast and we went to a place that was a little sketchy. No biggy, because our hosts and the town more than made up for the initial shock.

We’ve got lots of photos to share and stories to tell. But I’ve got a day job and tech duties to attend to (new ibook G4 is acting up) and emails to send. Will have a write up later.

And then there’s the whole Apple/Intel thing. CRAZY. Ultimately, I don’t care so much as long as I get to keep my UNIX underpinnings and beautiful GUI. I don’t think it’s going to mean cheaper Apple hardware, though. Apple is going to remain a premium brand.

Damn I missed the kids. Leta has grown a bit and Chuck seems to be pooping normally. All is right with the world. o

i agree… a Mac’s proce has little to do with hardware specifics.

although…. I wonder… do you think The Steve will be able to use a little leverage with Intel to make sure it always gets the fastest new chips FIRST, before any WindowsBoxes. that could be fun.

ooo, i missed the blurbodoocery and its daily output of highly-technical, highly-hilarious stories. gotta go look at your pix now. peas don’t leave us for so long again.

Ah yes, The “don’t talk to me, just get me food” stage. Very familiar with that.

We refer to it as “Danger Hungry”. If I could somehow engineer one of those red blinkie lights all the cheezy 70’s cop show cops used to pull out of their glove boxes and stick on top of their cars and attach it to my fiance’s head to signal this ahead of time, it’d save me a lot of near death experiences.

    ….run on sentence much?

I’m hoping for the best with the Apple/Intel thing. I can see why they’d need different processors considering IBM’s PPC slackery and the fact that laptops are now out-selling desktops (the best Apple can do in laptops without the processor swap is G4s. If they don’t make the switch, they’re going to be eating mobile computing’s dust).

I’m with you: keep the UNIX/BSD underpinnings and don’t screw with the GUI and I’ll be happy. Oh, and let me run my PPC apps on the Intel based hardware (Rosetta better rock). I’m a bit worried about my AAPL stock in the short term, but perhaps that’s just skittishness. We’ll see.

Grr I wanted to get my iBook next month. I think I may anyways. Who the heck knows when they’d be getting to the iBooks if they expect a full transition by 2007.

I wish the media wasn’t blowing things out of proportion with the Apple/Intel thing. Same great outside, and eventually a more frequently updated and faster inside.

So glad to hear your trip went well and you arrived safely. If it makes you feel any better, we’re still unpacking from the wedding. We got back OVER TWO WEEKS ago, and still have suitcases EVERYWHERE!
And I totally understand the low blood sugar thing. Does Delta serve meals with their flights, or have they switched to the “purchase on flight” dealio?
And another thing…Can you send me some DNA of Leta so we can clone her? I know she screams and screams, but she’s just so freakin’ cute!

Man, I tell you what, Google ads LOVES wedding talk. Admittedly, Google doesn’t index my site all that often but I have had wedding ads on my site for AGES now. Not that I’m complaining, I mean I am getting married after all. Just saying. I won’t be offended if you put this comment in the “comments that suck will be deleted” category.

I feel the same way about coming to visit my parents in Utah for “Christmas Vacation.”

The Christmas bit is acurate. But I usually need a vacation to recover from my vacation after all is said and done.

I must admit, you and Dooce rock my socks. Not only are you witty as all hell, but you two are the reason that I am TRYING to have hope for my fellow countrymen. Anyhoo, great stuff….now if I could only stop laughing for ten seconds to type something intelligent, you might actually read this and not think I am a complete moron. Ah well. Cheers!

This is a confusing time to be in the market for a new computer. Overwhelming really. Mac or PC. Wait for new technology to get settled in or buy right now. Which model/brand, features and size. Where do I even start?

    Becky Says:

No doubt you’ll get the computer up and running fine in time, ’cause you’re a bit of a genius. It gave me tingles of happiness to see Heather’s pic of Leta up on her feet, just as if she’s always loved it. I hope you don’t mind me coming over here to give all of you public kudos and yee-haws for what it took to get to now. Continued blessings to your beautiful family!
