That Damn Murphy With His Damn Laws and Shit
June 16th, 2005Heather just finished her panel. She kicked ass. I’m very proud of her. The discussion about what is “interaction”—what it used to mean in different media, and what it’s become to mean—was a good one.
Vancouver reminds me very much of San Francisco, but minus the U.S. part.
Also, 3hive is pseudo-down. We keep losing our log-ins and even after an mt_author table rebuild, we can’t get in. I think it’s a Movable Type bug, because none of the other installs I’ve done have shown this problem. Of course, this happens on a trip that’s supposed to be vacation…
Canada is lovely. o

Sorry to hijack your comments, Jon, but Heather has posted an inaccuracy that *must* be corrected.
“You canít pause live television in Canada.”
Yes, you can. We just call it a pvr, not tivo.
Just wanted to make sure you had all your info right when contemplating the big move.

Just adding to MsSisyphus’ comment; you can actually even run TiVo itself. There’s an easy-to-install program that mimics the TiVo Listings Server, fetching guide data from DataDirect using a free WSDL service. Or you can get a Ti-faux from one of the cable providers.
Glad that you enjoyed Vancouver. Next, I’d recommend trying to find some conference / panel in Montreal or Ottawa. Or Calgary. Or Halifax. Or Toronto. Or just come to my friend’s cottage with us.

Ok. So we get it. You CAN pause live television in Canada. GOT IT.
None of you are Leta’s grandparents, so we probably won’t be moving to Canada soon. Unless Arnold gets elected President or maybe Frist. If Frist gets elected President… Gah.

I have never seen so many pictures with Heather SMILING (Canada slideshow)! Must have had a super great time.

I suppose that would require an agreement on the definition of the word NICE.
I always have “nice” things to say about J. Armstrong. But that old grapevine — that pesky old grapevine…. not so nice that one.
anyway…. canadians are no more sincere or good than anyone else…
and — you get what goes to dooce — maybe that comes with the marriage stuff, i don’t know the legalities of blogs and marriage.
now if you’ll excuse me, there are some bunnies and rainbows flying out of my pants.

I visited Vancouver in December, trying to get away from Bushco and check out the alternatives. I fell in love with it too, and plan to move there as soon as I can (two more years to retirement.) Now that it has the Armstrong seal of Approval, it seems even more like the right choice. Hope that whacko Merkley guy isn’t based there…
