I love the way the people who support Bush and his minion never talk about what a great job he is doing or what great shape our country is in or how well the war in Iraq is going or isn’t it grand that we’re finally discovering who leaked that CIA operative’s name so we can punish the jerks who put our national security in jeopardy.
No-o-o-o. All they can do is tell those of us who are not happy with the direction our country is going in to “quit whining” and DO SOMETHING.
Well, I AM doing something. I am standing up and saying this government is corrupt and short-sighted and greedy and MUST BE CHANGED. I am saying this on the internet, to my friends, to my family, to my co-workeres, to my acquaintances, to my senators, to my representatvies, and to my president.
I shall work my butt off in 2006 to make sure the Democrats win, just like I worked in the recent Virginia’s governor’s race.
And I shall continue to whine and moan and hollar and scream until this country is back on the right track and has turned away from the Dark Side.
PERFECT!! I’m now evil!! Blurbomat.com IS THE PROBLEM EVERYBODY!! HAHAHAHAHAHA.
bravo southerngirl!! I had a multi paragraph rant, but you summed it up.
Fascism is real and it’s here RIGHT NOW. Up until very very recently, critics of this administration were challenged about their “patriotism” and referred to by the small people on the right as “treasonous”. People like me were lumped into that group, because we didn’t buy the bullshit. I’ve said it before (and been called out because of it), I value this opportunity to express my views. People died to give me this. I respect that. Those who express differing views, if anything, honor those who fought and died for freedom.
Impatient, it’s not about typing and typing. It’s about thinking and typing. People are angry. We need to get it out and then move forward. Torturing people is not moving forward. Turning away from enlightened thinking is not moving forward. Sham science is not moving forward. Trying to out PR the enemy is not moving forward. Faith-based is not moving forward.
Yacking about it to a half dozen people who disagree with is moving forward. I want to know what you think, but don’t try and bait me or paint ME as the bad guy because I’m pointing out something you are “tired of hearing”.
I’m tired of hearing about soldiers dying in Iraq. I’m tired of living under a regime that thinks it’s ok to torture people. Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld and the President have created this regime, with their crooked little cronies. It’s time to pay for the incompetence, the intolerance and the personal agendas forced on all of us.
“Furthermore, comparing…President Bush to Joseph Stalin is blasphemous”
Do you go to the Church of George W. Bush, Marcus?
I don’t believe in God and I am offended that my country, one that was founded on the premise that anyone, including myself, should be able to worship as they please, is fighting wars in the name of God, good vs. evil. People like you scare the shit out of me.
I think it might be time for the “Fark Bunny with a pancake on its Head” clichÈ to calm things down.
Since I don’t have a picture of a cute bunny. Here’s my cute three year old: http://tinyurl.com/7kzsg
Now that I’ve calmed things down…
Did anyone see/hear John Kerry’s rant on the Senate Floor today? He totally laid into Bush for Bush’s Veteran’s Day speech.
The Dems are starting to grow a pair again. I look forward to the 2006 elections.
“Furthermore, comparing…President Bush to Joseph Stalin is blasphemous”
I think that’s a direct quote from the Intelligent Design textbook.
Impatient: “Scott: I mentioned ‘people like me’ having to suck it up during Clintons years. I am flattered that you label me as “the republicans” - I would hope that a literary person would be able to distinguish such a difference in writing.”
ZAP!! POW!! ZING!!! Oh! Oh!! oooh! Is my nose bleeding? I just got tagged! And by someone who implies that I’m somehow not a “literary person” (making a little ad hominem dig there? How clever!) if I assume that statements like “folks like me who weren’t happy . . . when Clinton was in office” just “had to suck it up” and then complains about Jon getting “liberal buddies stirred up” indicate that he’s (?) a Republican! I’m just plain ol’ crushed.
Except, I made a general statement about “conservatives” and then made a sarcastic remark about Republicans without any direct reference to you. And all that for a dinky little ad hom! I mean, wow. That’s devotion, right there, I say! Expose your own misreading of something all for the sake of calling someoneóGASP!ó”a literary person.” Or maybe “not a literary person.” Whatever the hell that means.
Umm… Other than voting and letting politicians know what I think, what exactly am I supposed to do in order to qualify as “doing something?” Bake sale? Yellow ribbon sticker/magnet on my car? Stock up on guns? Pack up the ol’ F150 and head down to Arizona to watch the border?
“What bothers me is that people refer to President Bush and Mr. Bush…You can respect the position (by calling him Mr. President) if not the man.”
Gee, I dunno Marcus…sounds like you’re whining to me, but I could be wrong.
“Why don’t you people just get over the fact that BUSH is no worse than SLICK WILLY…”
I don’t understand why Mr. President supporters can’t seem to make their case without having to make the obligatory comparison to former Mr. President. Maybe it’s because there isn’t really much of a case to be made. Maybe Mr. President really is incompetent. I really hope that isn’t true, but as time moves on that seems to be the case.
Marcus and impatient you have made some interesting points, though your case would be much stronger if you had a blog where I could read about the case YOU want to make rather than being an anonomous reactionary. Or maybe its that you two spend all of your free time “doing something about it” that you don’t have time to maitain a blog? Please link if you do.
Wow, it looks like I stirred up a hornet’s nest. (I thought it would…) Perhaps I should have written, “insulting” instead of blasphemous. Normally I avoid words that have a religious connotation but I thought that would rile people.
Let’s see:
Jon, you are no more evil than me or anyone else. I know that you and a lot of people are dissatisfied with President Bush and his administration but I would hardly call it fascist or Stalinist in nature. If it were, you and every other blogger probably wouldn’t be able to voice your opinions like you do now. Not as overtly anyway.
“It’s time to pay for the incompetence, the intolerance and the personal agendas forced on all of us.”
To do that you will have to replace a large portion of the politicians at the local, state and federal level.
“…thinks it’s ok to torture people.”
Where did you hear that?
“Do you go to the Church of George W. Bush, Marcus?”
Nope. Nor do I agree with everything he does. (nominating Harriet Myers for example) However I would probably say that about any president. With the exception of an occasional wedding or (thankfully) infrequent funeral I don’t even go to church. I did have a minor flirtation with the church of LDS (it didn’t last long) but I’d rather not go into that. Nevertheless, if either Jon or Heather emails me I’ll tell them about it.
“Furthermore, comparing…President Bush to Joseph Stalin is blasphemous” I think that’s a direct quote from the Intelligent Design textbook.
I feel that intelligent design is a euphemism/synonym for creationism. Neither should belong in schools. I heard someone saying that some school was going to include intelligent design in their science classes. Would that mean that evolution should be taught at church?
“Umm… Other than voting and letting politicians know what I think…”
Just do exactly that! Write/email letters, telephone their offices and vote! On the other hand, get a nationally syndicated radio show with an audience of millions of listeners. Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Michael Savage seem to be doing quite well in that area. There is a good one in the Portland, Oregon area hosted by a guy named Lars Larson.
Heather - where did you hear that the war was being fought in the name of god? No…I’m not trying to argue with you. I’m genuinely curious.
I thought we went in to get a vicious dictator out of office and set up a (hopefully) democratic government. Yeah, I would think that certain people were hoping that we would find large, massive quantities of nuclear, chemical, biological weapons in Iraq, and I have yet to be convinced that there were any in sufficient quantities when we invaded. You have to admit that Saddam HAD used chemical weapons before - on his own people!
This will probably get me banned from life but yes… I am a Republican and a member of the NRA. No, I’m not a christian or very religious in nature. Though I respect a person’s right to pray/worship/whatever in any manner they wish (as long as it doesn’t have a negative or adverse effect on me) and would fight to preserve that right I am very wary of religious fundamentalists of any sect/denomination. Religion is one of the major causes of death and destruction in the history of the human race.
Patatomic, ya’ got me. Since when is having your own blog essential to a good debate? I actually kept a simple journal and did consider starting a blog of my own. I decided against it when I read about Heather getting fired because of what she wrote in hers. Hell, if I had a blog and wrote about everything that pissed me off at work I would’ve been fired (or sued) as well.
One of my favorite quotes:
“Though I disagree with what you have to say, I will fight to the death to preserve your right to say it.”
- Voltaire
Oops. I meant to say banned for life. Not banned from life.
It’s obvious that the kind people who have posted comments are upset, angry and maybe even offended about something when they are posting their comments. That’s understandable. But I have realized that I do not get upset and angry. Nor am I offended when I am posting my comments or my responses to comments made by others.
I’ll have to think about that.
I think that Jon and Heather (though both of them probably hate me by now) should be, and have been many times over, congratulated on their blogs. Both are first rate. Especially for putting up with people that they don’t have too. Me for example…
I hope that everyone is doing okay and have a good night/morning/afternoon.
How much freedom should we lose before we’re justified in being frightened of the direction in which the current administration is taking this country? Does the house need to be ashes on the ground before we shout “Fire!”?
“Though I disagree with what you have to say, I will fight to the death to preserve your right to say it.”
- Voltaire
“‘Hence - sit down, shut up, vote your conscience and pay your taxes - just like everyone else.’
‘Well said, Impatient!’ ”
I’m not sure how you can tell someone to sit down and shut up and then throw that Voltaire quote in there but whatever…
If every blogger that writes a dissenting opinion about our government always includes the postscript “I have also written to my congressman and senator about this matter” then you (”you” meaning all those that keep saying “stop talking and do something”) wouldn’t have any problem with them expressing that opinion? Come on, that’s just silly.
Seriously, how does “sit down, shut up, vote your conscience and pay your taxes” have anything to do with being an American? I’d prefer to stand up, TALK and make my voice heard about what I think is wrong and right with my country, vote my conscience and try to do what is rationally in my power (starting my own syndicated radio talk show isn’t one of them) to get others to vote with me, and oh yeah, pay my taxes.
“‘Hence - sit down, shut up, vote your conscience and pay your taxes - just like everyone else.”
Monica… I’ve no idea where you got that or who said it but it wasn’t from me.
Although I agreee with the “vote your conscience” part.
Sit down and shut up?? hmmm… you mean like we told the American Indians to do, and the black people who were enslaved… like Jim Jones told his followers sipping that kool-aid?? You want us to sit down and shut up like that? Or is there a different way that I don’t know about?
One of the great things about America is being able to voice your opinion loud and clear. And here’s my opinion… this administration is what we used to call a cluster fuck.
Have a happy day Ladies and Gentlemen.
This man is the epitome of perseverance. As if repeating himself one, he is going for a third one:

Maybe we should have a string installed in his back and we can just pull it when we need to hear one of his rehashed speeches.
Good God, I’m not touching any of the comments above.
I did want to say one thing though…
John Cusack is actually like, all smart? And politcally savvy. Huh. Who Knew?
