Intel Laptops for Mac Geeks!

January 10th, 2006

With a built-in iSight camera!

I wonder what the price points will be… o

UPDATE: $1,999 and $2,499. I’d love to see benchmarks. Probably not going to happen for our house for at least a year or two.

UPDATE: Apple link to new laptop, new iMac.

The PowerBook line sorely needed to be updated.

Wish they had come out with new Pro desktops since we are about to buy 11 of them here in the studio.

  2. patatomic says:

    sorry but, benchmarks?

  3. omar says:

It’ll probably be better to wait until software companies catch up anyway. That Rosetta emulation thing makes me nervous. It will work with “most” applications? Bah. In a year or so though, it’ll be sweet.

  4. Jagosaurus says:

Oh that’s nice. Really nice. “I need a cigarette” nice. And I don’t even smoke.

    (Flick … Ahhhhh.)

  5. patatomic says:

I’m a little disapointed that they didn’t revamp the laptop case/cover/shell.

I’m pretty stoked about the SNL stuff, actaully. I’ve wanted the “Bassomatic” commercial parody for a while now.

  7. Can’t wait to get to an Apple Store and check one out in person. I will also wait for 2nd generation, at least first bug fix. BUT THE SPEED is very attractive. The magnetic power charger is worth ANYTHING if you have had your laptop rocketed off of a tabletop by a running dog or kid (or wife). Great concept.

There are a few things about the MacWorld keynote that kinda get me down:

    1) No Firewire 800 on the MacBook Pro. Boo! That’s not very “pro”.
    2) What’s with the name “MacBook Pro”? I just don’t like it – it doesn’t roll off the tongue. Perhaps they should have tested it – it seems many in the Apple-user community aren’t feeling it, either.
    3) They haven’t made FrontRow an add-on for older Macs yet – why not? I’d like them to sell a USB IR-thingee (with their “Apple Remote”) that I can plug into my OG flat-panel iMac so I can turn my Looney Tunes DVD off without having to get back up outta bed! Cuz it’s cold in my house, and I’m lazy like that.

I have an old blueberry iMac, use it daily (she’s a champ). I wish the new laptops looked ‘cuter,’ i.e. more color options like iPods and the old clamshell laptops. Aw, nostalgia…and on a sidenote, I’ve got to find an adjective to replace ‘cute’ in my vocabulary…any suggestions?!

  10. Sara says:

I’m wondering about the new iLife; will the upgrades be worth the $80 I’d have to spend?

  11. duf says:

Tuck your thumbs in your armpits and repeat after me:

    MacBook MacBook MacBook MacBook . . . . BahGawk!

  12. Amy says:

Yeah, yeah, 4-5 times faster, blah, blah. But did you see that power cord!?!?! It’s about freakin’ time they update those! I have lost track of how many power supplies I have had to replace over the life of my household’s last 5-6 laptops. In fact, my husband’s (for his 1-month-old PowerBook) broke this week, possibly sacrificing the laptop’s end of the deal with it. You think you time your laptop purchases well, then Apple goes and pulls something like this…

You got chocolate in my peanut butter!
You got peanut butter in my chocolate!

Two great tastes together at last.

My girlfriend is going to be so pissed, she just bought a new PowerBook.

…I’ll have to make sure we go by the Apple store next time we take the dog for a walk.

After listening to my smug Mac owning mates for far too long about how a PC sucks (even though they’re all PC software developers – oh the irony!) I decided to throw it down with the Mac crowd and get excited about MacWorld. I sat and oooh’d and aaaah’d over every announcement on MacRumorsLive, and I have to admit – I’m pretty bloody impressed, like Tim says ^^^^ I’m glad I didn’t buy that 17″ Powerbook earlier this year – I’d be kinda annoyed right now :P

  15. Leah Penn says:

the real question for me: how soon will the intel ibooks be out? I’d like to “transition” to a mac (ie give my brother my PC laptop and get going), but I don’t want to buy one now if the new ibook will be out in a month or two OR if it will have all those nifty features (mostly, that magnetic power cord).

the suspense is killing me. it was bad enough to wait for macworld.

  16. At 2 and 2.5 grand I doubt you’ll see many of us social workers sporting mac book pro’s.

    Gastly name BTW.

  17. My buddy Rob over at rumblestrip.org just ordered his. I’ll let you know how it works out for him.
