Fodder… Grist… What have you…
January 24th, 2006This is why Utah is so joked about. The sad thing is that at least 60% of the Utah population likely thinks this guy has his shit together. An almost staggering ignorance combined with a narcissists self-righteousness is quite a recipe. For horseshit.
Sweet.
I’m going to quote Gob from Arrested Development: “Come on, people!” o

You can’t see me, but I am shaking my head in disbelief. Two steps forward, Six steps back. We are in trouble…big trouble.
January 24th, 2006 at 3:47 pm
When I was a Mormon, this asshat was my bishop for a while. His ignorance and bigotry know no bounds. Unfortunately, this endears him to the locals. I’m afraid we’re going to have him around for a long, long, time.
If you have the stomach for it, here’s a link to a recent interview of his on the local public radio station, KUER: http://tinyurl.com/dy6sb
When I heard his ID bill had passed the first vote, it made me want to drive my car. Since I like my car, I decided to just drive home instead, but I’ve done a lot of thinking…is there anything the sane people here can do to stop this moron?
January 24th, 2006 at 3:48 pm
Ok. Press preview *first*. Make that “it made me want to drive my car into a tree.”
DUHH.
January 24th, 2006 at 3:52 pm
Thanks Eight Hour Lunch…for making me laugh good and hard.
Preview is good.
As for this nimrod (yes, I’m actively campaigning to have this word brought into the 2000s), kinda reminds me of my new Prime Minister.
January 24th, 2006 at 3:54 pm
Acute bronchitis, eh? There’s no use arguing with him then. Everybody knows acute bronchitis is a clear indicator that one is deviant. Sigh.
Also, that he would stand up in front of a group and say something like that (something that is both stupid and prurient) reminds me of that scene in Porky’s where the professor (or whatever that stuffy character was) said that he had watched every filthy frame of the porn tape he confiscated … twice.
January 24th, 2006 at 4:04 pm
I just need to know exactly what his relationship to Gary Stephens is and what did his contact do to him and when can he do it to GWB or some other power on high?
and why didn’t he answer the note that I passed him in gym class??
..ahem, anyone else concerned with what kind of ‘contact’ he’s enjoyed with 16 concerned citizens? Sounds exhausting!
January 24th, 2006 at 4:12 pm
Yeah…I don’t know where to start except that the are plenty of Mormon faithful (myself included) that can’t stand this guy. So let’s get this straight: THIS MAN DOES NOT REPRESENT OR SPEAK FOR THE LDS CHURCH.
Also, THE EAGLE FORUM is not sanctioned by the Church and (in my opinion) is a scourge upon the earth.
What we have here is a classic case of cultural misinformation (kind of like how some people believe that Mexicans are lazy, Islam teaches violence and black men are well endowed).
I think that for us, the choir that seems to be preached to here on the Blurb, need to fight fire with water. In other words, calling this man intolerant is a HUGE mistake. I mean, as much as I disagree with him, he does have an opinion and I would be just as intolerant if I called him intolerant. This man needs to be informed and educated about this culture that he obviously has a great deal of fear of. We, in turn need to understand why he holds his opinions and beliefs.
Maybe I have it wrong, and I’ll be the first to admit it, but it seems to me that the number one problem with this world is that we don’t communicate or have a desire to understand what we don’t know. Ignorance isn’t really all that it’s cracked up to be.
January 24th, 2006 at 4:22 pm
I don’t think that all of the 60% are necessarily of one faith. It’s about education, acceptance, experience and openness.
January 24th, 2006 at 4:27 pm
Patatomic, I certainly don’t want to lump everyone in one category. You are one of the rare gems in Utah. Really. Utah = ~65-70% LDS. 60% of Utahns favor Buttars. The math…aw hell you know.
Anyhow, put me in the “don’t like Buttars, likes Patatomic just fine” camp.

** snort **
He would probably do well here in Texas, where the Legislature recently passed a Definition of Marriage Amendment to the state constitution that is simply embarrassing.
January 24th, 2006 at 4:45 pm
i bet you a bajillion dollars that it was mostly “gay contact”. which would explain how greatly informed he is on the subject.
January 24th, 2006 at 5:20 pm
Leafgirl, I am so sorry about your new prime minister. what’s bizarre is that it’s been largely out of the news. I think it’s a huge deal when I stop thinking of Canada as a viable immigration option.
January 24th, 2006 at 7:00 pm
Do you think he threw in ‘acute bronchitis’ just to see if we were paying attention?

Be Afraid … Be very afraid!
January 25th, 2006 at 7:08 am
man, it’s not just utah. in my neck of the woods (northeast tenn.), letters protesting the airing of that “book of daniel” show by the local nbc affiliate are STILL pouring in to the local newspapers. it’s ungodly! it’s blasphemous! it offends our delicate sensibilities! their jesus is a wimp - not the fire-breathing, vengeance-bringing jesus of revelations! (that was one person’s actual complaint - you can’t make this stuff up). so is it any wonder that an intolerant, uneducated populus elects like-minded officials? i’m sorry to use the i-word, patatomic; it’s easy to overlook the inherent hypocrisy of that word. i’ll be the first to admit that i am intolerant of intolerance! i agree that it oversimplifies a larger problem of cultural misinformation and lack of education. how do we begin to work together when the distance between is is so far and so seemingly unbridge-able? i’m with you on the need for communication. now where do we start?
January 25th, 2006 at 7:20 am
Utah definitely has it bad, but idiocy knows no boundaries. In Indiana, a legislator introduced a bill on Tuesday that would make it illegal for cities and counties to pass laws that would make it illegal for employers and landlords to discriminate based on sexual orientation.
To quote leafgirl77: “Nimrods”
January 25th, 2006 at 7:54 am
So since the gay men have more “rectal disorders” I suppose we are going to have to outlaw heterosexuality, too, due to all of the “vaginal disorders.” Pity.
January 25th, 2006 at 8:28 am
Okay…I’m dying to make an intelligent comment on this issue, but I am still laughing hysterically at “Eight Hour Lunch’s” use (again) of the word asshat. LOL! Thanks!
As an ex-Mormon, I hope my former bishop does something insane enough to warrant such an endearment!
January 25th, 2006 at 11:00 am
Syphillis? Rectal disorders? Genital herpes?
God, he makes it sound so damn glamorous. Dang it, I wish I were one o’ them homos, too.
January 25th, 2006 at 11:53 am
“citizens in 16 Utah counties concerned with “gay issues”"
Is Utah the San Francisco of western states?
I didn’t realize there were so many gay people running rampant in Utah that _16_ counties had to get their panties in a wad about them. Sounds like Utah must be Armageddon’s starting point.
BTW, I never thought I would say this, but…Heather is wrong. Clogs must be worn so feet will be happy.
January 25th, 2006 at 12:44 pm
Wow. That almost made me feel better about my new asshat Prime Minister. Actually, it does make me feel better, since I can console myself with the fact that at least my asshat doesn’t have any real power to promote his bigotry and hate. Tough break there.
And bronchitis??? Come on. I can see how they’re justifying the rest, but that one? How the hell….wait. Penny dropped. Never mind.
January 25th, 2006 at 1:18 pm
Having lived in the Northeast (NYC, CT, RI) my entire life, I find it amazing that people in public office can actually get away with saying things like this. IN PUBLIC, no less!!
This guy sounds like Pat Robertson. “It’s God’s retribution for being a sinner…” But at least he is forced to publicly apologize every time he says crap like that!
Wow.
January 25th, 2006 at 1:46 pm
I am new to both your site and Heather’s. Although I have read her more extensively, I love both. Very rarely do I find something to crack up over during the day, but ya’ll do it every time. Question: I have been trying to figure out the comments bit on Heather’s site - does she not have them anymore??
January 25th, 2006 at 2:01 pm
I’m confused (forgive me, I’m tired). Does he mean that he talked to gay citizens concerned with “gay issues” in 16 Utah counties? It sounds like he talked to uninformed homophobes in 16 Utah counties.
And, maybe I should google this before I ask the question, but what is urinary scarring and how does it pertain to homosexuals?
January 25th, 2006 at 8:43 pm
I’m a little confused here. What was the purpose of this statement? What was the topic at hand that prompted him to reply in such a manner?
Besides the obvious effort of vilifying, why was this even discussed?
I am amazed that more people don’t see this as blatant bigotry. Where is the outrage? The outcry for an apology?
Why must prominent religious figures use scare tactics to alienate us from straight society? What did we do to deserve this? What did I do that makes people hate me so much? I just don’t get it.
Just today I had to erase several comments off my blog because someone was bashing me. He went so far as to say that “queers are for killing.”
Why? I just don’t understand. I’m a good person. I live a decent life. I’ve never harmed a living soul in my life. Yet, I have to fear for my life just because I exist?
Anyway, I’m done bitching. I’m so tird of this.
January 26th, 2006 at 4:21 am
But the sad — or hilarious? — thing is GOB would love this guy.
January 26th, 2006 at 10:03 am
I feel like he’s the type of guy who I could convince that if I licked my finger and touched him, he’d get the gay.
January 26th, 2006 at 5:14 pm
It’s unfortunate that people like this are fingered for being the ‘norm’ in the LDS culture. Those of you who know better should perhaps think about pointing fingers in other directions other than at those who don’t represent the majority.
January 26th, 2006 at 8:43 pm
It is unfortunate, skowronek. However, as an elected official, he won the majority of the vote. So he represents the majority of something, finger pointing or not.
January 27th, 2006 at 1:25 pm
He won the majority of the vote, sure. But what were the circumstances? George Bush is an ‘elected official’ solely due to the lack for better options, not because we all wanted him there. He was just the better option of the two horrible selections.
January 27th, 2006 at 11:44 pm
Ummm…call me crazy, but isn’t the lesser of the two evils *still* evil?
