Polygamist Busted

Polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs arrested in Las Vegas

CNN story

This is the guy that I’ve written about before. He was on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted list. I wonder who is going to bust him first? Utah or Arizona?

Thanks to reader Bill for sending this one in. o

  1. As soon as I saw this story online, I wondered if you’d blog about it. I knew about him from you first.

  2. Bill says:

Odd that his wife and brother weren’t arrested. Wouldn’t they be accessories?

  3. Ranger says:

Too bad that they didn’t catch him before he left such a monumental genetic legacy. Just what our gene pool needed, not.

when I got the ‘CNN Breaking News’ email this morning and I read the headline, all I could think about was how happy this would make make you, Jon. yes, you and Heather have invaded my brain THAT much!

but i’m happy too. this guys is one serious f#ck!

  5. When I read that I wondered if you would mention it. I was betting that Heather would blog about it first, but then I’ve been wrong before….. :)

I’m guessing that his arrest will make him a martyr in the eyes of the nutcases.

I didn’t realize he was so heavily wanted by the FBI. Strange bird, that one.

I agree with Jen, and furthermore, I think sanctifying pedophilia as a religious “freedom” is a pretty good reason anyone should take a serious look at their religions “beliefs” (read:indoctrination, brainwashing,et al.).
I mean, it’s not as if this is the 16th century and there is a brothel at the Vatican, this is the new millenium and information IS power, people. It is the power to make informed choices perhaps parents and ancestors who chose to raise a child in that religion did not have.
In short, if our generation KNOWS, isn’t ignoring it for the sake of keeping a religion safe from inquiry akin to supporting its tenets in their entirety? And if so…how do they live with themselves?
What do their kids say..oh, mom, after school when Kimmy is done seving her husband dinner I’m going to go on over and study for my pre-algebra quiz. Don’t worry, I’ll be home early, I get all jealous when they get romantical and she runs her fingers through his thinning, greying head of hair.”
Sweet Jebus, as Trent would say.

Did anyone happen to see the interview with a female member of the compound on CNN this morning? While dressed in her pilgrim garb, she said she didn’t believe Jeffs is a real prophet now because he was being dishonest. She believed that he would be seen as a martyr now, being persecuted. So she’s just going to live her religion and move on. So, how long do you think it’ll be before she gets excommunicated and kicked off the compound? Oy.

  11. Jezzie says:

Again, Jen, thank you for proving my point. Teenage girls should have crushes on boys their own age, not be meat puppets and house mouses for disgusting, sick minded, perverted, fugging old bastards who can’t be with real women their own age (who can choose for themselves) and “perform”, ok?
And why don’t they sell off the boys at 14 to old women in the lds church, huh? How backwards can this whole thing be.
And …our leaders criticize other cultures for being backard on civil rights while this is going on right here in America. Sheesh.
Jon, thanks, man, no one else takes this on but you buddy.

I’m a Las Vegas attorney and I was at the courthouse this morning at about the same time as Jeffs’ extradition hearing. The security was amazing – the guards who accompanied Jeffs were in bulletproof vests and there were serious looking dudes in military like uniforms with machine guns at the entrances. This is definitely not typical for our courthouse and makes me wonder if they were expecting some kind of polygamist militia.

He waived his extradition rights so he should be heading your way soon.

I scrolled down the page kinda fast, before the page had loaded entirely, and directly under the Polygamist Busted headline was your wedding picture.

  14. FlippyO says:

It’s great to live in Vegas, where all the most excellent criminals run to get caught.

The highway patrolman who caught him should be working the airports doing profiling. Impressive, that.
