Bravo, Rocky
August 31st, 2006Salt Lake sounds off in protest and support
We watched the Mayor of Salt Lake speak on TV during lunch yesterday. It was fantastic to hear a public official speak out like this. Even if one disagrees with the politics, you have to admire a local official who is not running for re-election (some would argue he may run for another office down the road) who isn’t afraid to speak up.
The local GOP tried a phone jamming campaign to “send a message” that Mr. Anderson didn’t speak for the state. For the record, he represented my feelings perfectly.
And as a host city, it was great to see all the rallies for and against Bush. Favorite one: “Rock Against Rumsfeld”.
I’ll be sad when Mr. Anderson leaves office. He’s a colorful mayor and I love how outspoken he can be. o

I have been impressed with Rocky Anderson overall due to his individuality as a leader. I still am not sure about the orange flags, but hey they sure are orange.
I heard him speak on NPR this morning. I now have a major political crush on your mayor.
Just when you’ve lost faith in a lot of your fellow Americans, you read something like this and realize that there is hope!
Rocky rants always fun to hear.
And though it’s a shame, I seriously doubt he could ever run for a state-wide office. The Republicans here would crucify him. They’d have a jolly time crafting a smear campaign against him. “He doesn’t just hate our sainted son, George W. Bush and the family values we cherish, but that Rocky Anderson, I once saw him kill and eat a cute little puppy!”
Wow! Brav-fucking-o! In Utah– Liberty Park no less!
Wow. I wouldn’t have predicted that– I didn’t know SLC had such a cool mayor. How the hell did that happen?
I hope you are feeling better.
Bravo, Rocky! I was very impressed when I heard his speech. I, too, had no idea that SLC had such a rocking mayor. Just doesn’t compute.
Have you seen Keith Olbermann’s blistering speech against Rummy? It’s fabulous! He’s becoming our very own Edward R. Murrow.

Now, repeat after me: I, blurb, will NEVER submit myself to another guinea pig medical experiment because I am not a guinea pig and I do not want to end up in a movie like “12 Monkeys”.
Southern Girl beat me to it, I was going to recommend the Olbermann piece.
It’s good to see some opposition to Bush coming out of SLC. SLC is a really nice town with a bunch of progressives in it. Maybe the mayors speech will help to get SLC’s progressives voices heard more.
When I saw that speech I almost broke out in song. There was no one home to hear it though, and who wants to sing praises without an audience?
Thank Rocky for having the gonads to rip Bush a new one.
