Much Needed Firefox 2.0 Tips
October 27th, 2006Top Firefox 2 config tweaks
I’m really liking Firefox 2. But there have been some annoying things that I wanted to tweak and didn’t have the time or inclination to figure out. This link touches a lot of them.
I’ve given up on the dreadful most recent version of Safari. Slow to load most web pages, horrible cache (the back button feels like Netscape 4.0, redrawing the whole page to load though you were just there) and terrible proxy speed.

Wait, Firefox has a Mac upgrade to 2.0? I’m using 1.5.07 and I thought I had the latest version.

I like Camino more than Firefox and Safari.
The only downside is that you cant install extensions, but it has a good built in ad blocker.

It’s a big improvement over 1.5.

For the Mac version, any idea what the is deal with the squashed-lookin’ favicons? I’m also missing the use of the single stop/reload button add-on, a la Safari, and being able to boss around the tab sizes.
Still, it’s smokin’ fast!

The LifeHacker post, as well as the comments thread, is well worth reading.

I’m a fan of ver 2.0 also. I pity Microsoft for thinking their 7.0 browser is a huge improvement. So it finally accommodates CSS and allows tabs. Favourites is as messed up as ever with no automatic alphabetical re-ordering available. They lost the browser wars eons ago.

Especially to remove the close button from each individual tab. How annoying…

Im really surprised you aren’t using Camino. The latest nightlies have almost feature parity with firefox 2.0 and its GUI speed and app load speed blows firefox out of the water. The main feature missing is a good del.icio.us plugin.

Camino is a great browser, but a huge CPU hit (at least the last build I downloaded). Plus, the Web Developer Add-on for Firefox is very sweet for CSS troubleshooting.

Man, I had nothing but problems with Firefox 2.0.
It crashed 4 times on my the first 10 minutes that I used it, so I uninstalled it and went back to Firefox 1.5.7.
I was really bummed out, but I work from home, and need stability.
