Typical GOP II: We’ll do anything to stay in power
November 6th, 2006 ‘Robocalls’ are latest in negative campaigning
“Hi. I’m calling with information about Melissa Bean …”
Then she got the call again and again and 18 more times, making for a total of about 21 calls since October 24.
“They are very annoying,” Ronen said.
Pat Vockeroth, of Mount Prospect, received the calls too — “Hi. I’m calling with information about Tammy Duckworth …”
“If you only listen to the first sentence, you think they are from the Duckworth campaign,” she said.
But the calls aren’t paid for by Bean, Duckworth or even the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, they are paid for by the National Republican Congressional Committee.
The GOP can’t win on issues or its record (Iraq, Abromoff, Foley, DeLay, Ney, et. al.), so tries this dirty tactic to suppress voter turnout. Of course, the GOP lies and says that it’s a computer glitch that the calls happen to the same people over and over. Par.

blurb,
It’s all a part of our vast right wing conspiracy. The telemarketing thing is just a diversion from our real ace in the hole, Diebold voting machines. Then again, we are forcing the price of oil down to make it look like its the economy and the Saddam verdict just happened to come out yesterday. Go Rove Go!
Happy conspiracy theory Monday!
November 6th, 2006 at 7:48 am
Who said anything about conspiracy? This is reality, baby.
It’s pretty clear that the GOP are campaigning experts. What is equally clear: the GOP can’t govern as a majority. Look at the messes the GOP majority has made. No need for tinfoil to see the reality of a botched job in Iraq.

While I live in the area mentioned, I haven’t received any calls. I have had to Tivo-fast forward through entire commercial breaks filled with slander ads from both parties. I have yet to hear any reliable info on where any of the candidates stand. I’ve honestly decided to vote for our current idiot governor because there’s no way I want Judy Bar in place and Blagoyoschmuck will probably be indicted before the end of this next term.
I’m actually very disappointed in the IL GOP. The last governor race took place in the middle of indictments against the outgoing governor George Ryan. What was the best candidate they could put up against the weenie the Dem put up? Another guy with the last name Ryan. Yeah, that’s gonna work. Let’s take advantage of name recognition.
Not that I really want a GOP member in that office, but I’d at least like some kind of choice.

Those Robo-calls (i.e. Karl Rove push polling special sleaze), are illegal.
dailykos had an article about this last Friday:

‘Do not call’ rules do not apply to politicans or non-profit groups. They are exempt.
November 6th, 2006 at 10:34 am
trk75, how’s that moral high ground?
November 6th, 2006 at 10:39 am
blurb,
It angers me to no end that they, all politicans, are exempt from their own rules.
November 6th, 2006 at 10:44 am
It always pisses me off when the mainstream media says Bush won in 2000 and 2004, when we all know he stole both elections.
And they are at it again. Have you seen all the reports on how easily the Diebold voting machines can be hacked? I am VERY afraid.
Why can’t we go back to paper ballots like Canada uses? They never have voting problems there.
November 6th, 2006 at 11:09 am
Blurb,
It’s not whether the GOP can win on its issues or record, but whether the Democrats can beat the GOP on said issues and record. The GOP is campaigning on the health of the economy, low unemployement rate, and the FACT that Democrats will raise taxes. The Democrats are the ones campaigning on Iraq, Abromoff, Foley, Ney, and Delay.

McDonie,
The GOP has had utter control of the White House, the Senate and the House. Where we sit today is all about the GOPs past record.
You can try to demonize the unknown future or live in the reality that your ideologies have failed to govern effectively and move the country forward. The record that is real, that has failed this country is that of the GOP. Time to vote them out of power.

You should really watch this as it is jaw dropping scary:

I Tivo’d that HBO documentary and haven’t watched it yet. I will watch it tonight.
November 6th, 2006 at 1:40 pm
The more annoying they are, the more effective. I guess making people associate their name with bile is their goal. Sure gets me interested! My house puts the baby on to talk to them when a live person is on the other end. We are giving them the leader of the household. Isn’t that who they want to talk to? I prefer to get calls about ocean front property in AZ. Question: When did it become okay to start calling cell phones? I thought that was a no-no.

Are you aware that it’s not only Republicans who are doing the Robocalls?
November 6th, 2006 at 4:11 pm
Mistee, are the Dem robocalls misleading or designed to stop Republicans from going to the polls? Or are they just plugging a vote? The point of my linking isn’t the robocalls. It’s that the RNCC is funding misleading robocalls. In other words, lying.
And I’m making a not so subtle point about the culture of lying that the GOP has to rely on to stay in power.
November 6th, 2006 at 7:39 pm
That is crazy. But not surprising.
Do you watch Zefrank? From a recent show:
In a recent press conference, White House spokesman Tony Fratto was asked about reports that the President refuses to engage in any strategic planning to deal with the possibility of a Democratic takeover.
Fratto: “We’re still in the game and if you’re in the game, you’re in it to win.”
Reporter: “Government isn’t a game, and you are governing, and so your responsibility is to prepare for how to govern, regardless of how it turns out, so it may be a game in the political sense, but it’s really not a game to Americans who want their government to be ready to do what needs to be done.”
Smack!

Here in Montana, we have a very tightly contested Senate race.
The GOP slime is calling people in the middle of the night, using east-coast numbers, mispronouncing names, and identifying themselves as Democrats.
Pathetic.
November 7th, 2006 at 9:27 am
I watched that Zefrank show with Tony Fratto’s gaggle- it’s awesome. I want to shake that reporter’s hand.
Might want to check this out too- this morning on crooksandliars.com– On the campaign trail, Bush uses the excuse that “oil prices will go up” if we leave Iraq. It was on CNN!

monkeyaker — that quote is spooky. I can remember being barely old enough to vote and watching his dad on TV pissed off and telling a reporter “If it weren’t for me, you’d all be paying three bucks a gallon for gas.”
>_<
November 7th, 2006 at 2:27 pm
I know it’s lame, but I am happy it’s almost over. I can’t wait to get my phone back. … and hopefully some little shred of my government back, too.
November 7th, 2006 at 2:36 pm
Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to add that while Bush’s tactics disturb my digestive tract — and I can’t really see anything that comes from his mouth as the views of a person genuinely concerned with the average U.S. citizen — I feel as if we should be paying $3 a gallon and MORE for gasoline as a general rule. Conservation and investing in alternative fuels should be the reason, though, not to line the pockets of his pals.
I mean, if they can keep gas prices artificially low in this country, why aren’t they negotiating with the drug industry?
Sorry, again, for the double post.

I live in Indiana, and we can give Utah a run for it’s money on the whole right-wing lock…I live in a podunk suburb of Indianapolis, actually, so some would say it’s even worse. BUT, this morning I woke up, heard the news and starting singing to myself “Do a little dance. Make a little love. Get down tonight. woohoo..” There’s hope!
November 8th, 2006 at 8:51 am
I’m in one of the bluest of blue states, NY, and as I watched the election results come in last night, I thought “Finally! America’s awake, and we’re all coming together.” It’s pissing down rain here, but this is a bright morning indeed.
November 8th, 2006 at 12:42 pm
The good news:
WE WON!!!!! ACROSS THE BOARD!!! AMERICA IS SAVED!!!
The great news:
RUMSFELD GETS FIRED!!!!!!
(See, we were right all along)
November 8th, 2006 at 1:42 pm
Now, southerngirl, why didn’t the GOP steal the elections this year too?
