Interesting Speculation
January 4th, 2007What Jobs told me on the iPhone
Seen on Daring Fireball and del.icio.us/popular.
Guardian piece from a former Apple employee that talks about how Apple works and more specifically, how Steve Jobs approaches the market.
I still wonder if we’ll see an Apple phone. I’d love to see a mobile phone with a sweet interface and sweeter functionality. It seems like the iPod already has a lot of things in place, just no way to enter info in without a computer attached.
Have you ever loved a phone the way you love your iPod? o

Actually, I currently use a Nokia 6230 as my personal phone (as opposed to my work cell) and I can’t find another one this size with its features. Normally I detest cell phone discussions and/or ratings, but I feel strongly about this phone.

hmm, loved a phone? Maybe strong like. On paper they do make such a phone, but in practice, it just doesn’t fly.
My Treo 650 was the best so far. Great low-light pictures, QWERTY key, didn’t have too bad of calculator form factor, functional PIM…craptastic email support.
My Blackberry 7250 was great at PIM and email, not to mention it was unbelievably solid (thrown against metal doors, and rock solid software to die for). Just no media… HEY! I want to document my life!
My Treo 700p was the best on paper (and i still use it). Everything the top 2 have, just crazy crazy buggy. Most unstable phone I have ever had. But it does do everything, just not all the time. The best is high-speed tethering anywhere in the US with bluetooth and my macbook.

no, but if apple made one, I’m prepared to believe that I would

I am loving my Treo 650. My IT guy talked me out of a higher number model. It is not the same love I have for my iPod, sorta love without the sex.
Apple has an uncanny knack for getting things to work the way normal people expect them too. Interested in what the phone would be like.

Phone love just isn’t in the same league as iPod love.

unless they created an ipod with phone capabilites including high speed internet access or wifi.
It would need to have an iSight built in to act as a camera and mobile video conferencing.
My guess is they will be aiming more for students than business people.
