Oh my.

Whenever I see the emo and goth kids i’m reminded of the SNL skit with Chris Kattan playing Azrael Abyss the Prince of Sorrow on Florida public access.
“Goth Talk is brought to you by The Gloom Room, the place for all your Goth needs. It’s an orgy of the macabre, right next to the Pizza Hut on Hibiscus Road. “

Checks the date…
Ah… sweeps week.
“Coming up at ten on your local news: $_small_thing blown up into $_large_thing, which we will engineer so it scares the beejezus out of you, even though it’s NO big deal and our ratings will go up and up and up!”

And! What’s especially LOVELY about the linked article is their link at the end to a Wikipedia article on “Emo (slang)”
Double awesome.

Good grief.

This just in: Parents don’t know about current teen culture, but teens do.
Morons.

Heh. They’d faint if they actually ever found out about (better yet, stepped foot in) Elysium or Emo’s (yup, it’s a bar!) here in Austin. Goth and emo city.
May 22nd, 2007 at 4:55 am
oh my. i had no idea that today’s youths are wearing black clothes, feeling pain and angst, and thinking they’d invented it all. shocking, totally shocking.

I could tell they’d cribbed their “research” from wikipedia and various videos. The reporters failed to recognise the satire behind the statement “Happiness is a sin.”
I suppose I should be used to this. I was goth in Utah when one of several goth news reports went whipping round…and man, suddenly everybody was concerned about my Eternal Salvation(tm). (Nevermind that I was a bookish nerd who didn’t drink, didn’t smoke, hadn’t had sex, got along with my parents–oh noes, she has the dyed hair and the combat boots!)
May 22nd, 2007 at 6:32 am
Is their next report going to be on the dangers of ‘hip’ kids and their skinny jeans?
Cyndilou - I’m in Austin too, and yeah, I’d like to see that reporter try to handle Emo’s…
May 22nd, 2007 at 6:48 am
Oh the eye-rolling that went on in my house!
May 22nd, 2007 at 6:56 am
Personally, I think the next report should be about the overbearing, non-military fatigue-wearing, gun and knife collecting, tattooed war-mongers who pretend to be parents to these kids.

Indeed Jon Deal. Walk Camden in London and they’ll show you emo. Three free razorblades and Panic! At The Disco’s latest hit single included. Or you might end up in a Burberry theme covered Ford Escort. But that’s only for those who don’t know white trash.

Well, now *I* have learned something today. I was wondering what this emo shit is. Now I know.
I’ll sleep better tonight.
[I thought it was something to do with COMPUTERS. Sheesh. I'm such a dork.]

Is emo better or worse than exmo?
May 22nd, 2007 at 8:23 am
Oh jeez.
I love how Death Cab for Cutie is now the musical harbinger of suicide.
And… did they ever stop to consider that emo might have nothing to do with the fact that Utah’s suicide rate is sky-high?

My favorite part goes a bit like this : “…Boys where girl’s pants…” then the video cuts to flowery, colorful pair of pre-teen girl’s pants. I couldn’t help laughing at that. A lot.
It’s too bad about that boy, but goodness, he exhibits the signs of emo? The fact that they are using slang to describe that boy’s health issues on the news is absolutely ridiculous.
May 22nd, 2007 at 9:08 am
Rachel: Don’t be silly. There are absolutely no reasons to be sad in Utah. Why it’s a wholesome, loving, environment where nobody should ever feel pain. It must be this rock and roll kids listen to these days.

Jon, please tell Heather I ADORE her pictures of Chuck.
IWANTTHATDOG!
*sigh*
I’m so in love with a non-human…

I hate my local news as well. They constantly hype “important” stories that have “revealing information” about topics that “you need to know about”. And when they advertise something that I am actually interested in, it gets 15 seconds, and that’s 45 minutes into the hour-long newscast. This has made me want to pick up and hurl my television out the window on several occasions.
I *LOVE* Omar’s comment!
Forever and ever, generational culture and mental health will be linked to each other by the news media. And they will always claim that the culture affected the mental health of the practicioners, rather than the other way around.
Stupid news media. I hate them.

Man, I wish my lawn was emo. Then it’d cut itself.
I love that joke.
May 22nd, 2007 at 10:00 am
Oh, and speaking of emo: Sinfest presents Emo Christ!
May 22nd, 2007 at 10:16 am
OH! This is so good it must be fattening!
May 22nd, 2007 at 10:41 am
Do HMOs treat EMOs?
May 22nd, 2007 at 10:59 am
Morrissey - They will be coming for you next.
