I also think that it’s humorous that the “source” for this information is Wikipedia….rule #1 I was taught in my research class, “Don’t use Wiki…it’s not reliable.” Heck, even the Wiki page itself claims that it’s not reliable and may be deleted.
The shock and awe nature of the article makes me glad I don’t live in Utah….not that they don’t have similar things elsewhere, but still.

i have a 12 year old daughter who was/is attempting to be “emo”. except she hated the fact of people calling her on it, altho it was what she was trying to emulate (typical for a tween).
there is cutting but not the kind of cutting that is typically hidden. she was way up into the lifestyle, got into a LOT of trouble that involved a judge and the police.
very few people have any idea what emo is and they look at me like i’ve got four heads or something when i try and explain.
i heard that emo has it’s roots from the 80’s. it’s a new twist on an old problem (being young with crazy hormones.)
nice coverage on this.

I am *SO* Emo. . . But only when I’m off my meds.

I too laughed at the “girl pants” and the assertion that being “emo” is the cause of Utah’s teen suicide rate.
My favorite line? “an advanced emo…” as if they’ve completed extra hours of training and have an associate’s in emo.
