I don’t think I have commented before, but I wanted to thank for being the calm in the storm! Jeez louise, you’d think Crocs + escalators = the death toll in Iraq or something, the way it’s being reported in the news.

And if I am being truthful, *I* am one of those people who nearly gets crunched every time I use an escalator… whether I am wearing my Crocs or NOT!

“Particularly with children.” and “How hard is it to stand in the non-shoe grabbing part of the step on an escalator” in no way belong together. Being on an escalator with children every time is like “all the steps collapsing at once and we all go flying into the machinery.” Take my advice: don’t ever ever go one on with a child, hot coffee and a Snapple bottle.

OK, try telling your 4- to 7-year old child exactly where to place their feet on a moving step tread, and just see exactly where that foot ends up.

Yes, you adults have precision foot-placement prowess to be admired by even the most accurate of robotic devices. But children? They haven’t had the time to perfect such fine motor skills. Be the parent — watch out for them. Crocs or otherwise.

Yes, and it’s not just crocs. It’s all kind of footwear—especially floppy kinds. My crocs aren’t so floppy and I always stand with my feet so well centered in the steps it annoys my hubby.

This isn’t a new phenomenon, it’s just gained attention again.

I hate escalators anyway and avoid them as much as possible. I just imagine all the steps collapsing at once and we all go flying into the machinery.

How come people aren’t trapping any other kind of footwear? Flip flops, sandals, slip on trainers??

I thought escalators weren’t for standing but for “assisting” the normal act of climbing stairs. At least that’s how escalators are used by daily commuters — climb to the left, stand to the right. Only in malls do I see everyone just stand on them.

I think maybe people should simply not take escalators for granted but rather practice some caution. Know your surroundings, people.
