dooce® Update
November 28th, 2007Hey kids, we just fixed the feeds. You should now see photos in whatever feed you have subscribed. We’re also looking at server issues in regards to caching. So far, it doesn’t appear that Safari or Firefox on Mac are as affected as IE and Firefox on Windows. More soon
I know, this is turning into a status blog. This is my life right now. o

Is there a reason Vienna isn’t registering paragraph breaks? Safari’s RSS reader does, but I’m transitioning to Vienna it doesn’t seem to pick up on breaks for dooce.com.

@Julia, The only way I can get Vienna to work is to unsubscribe and then resubscribe. You should see the changes immediately. Including breaks. I couldn’t get Vienna to refresh. You could wait until Heather does a new post and that might trigger a refresh, but if you want your breaks now, re-subscribe is the fastest.

You might try turning off caching in Drupal and see if that does anything. Or setting the “expires” META tag in the template(s). I haven’t experienced any issues with the site, (un)fortunately, so I’m not much help…
While I have your attention, though, you should definitely add the “Daily X” photos to dooce’s RSS feed (or, at the very least, provide a separate feed for them). I miss seeing Chuckles’ face every morning.
Also, the right sidebar is far too bare for my tastes. “Previously” is getting a bit lost at the bottom, I think…

Looks like the Daily Chuck is now part of the feed. AWESOME, thanks for doing this!

I think most of us enjoy the “status” reports as well as the tips and shortcuts. I like the shortcut to empty the cache. I didn’t know about it. I’m sure my husband does, and I’m sure he’s told me. But it’s like how my mom doesn’t believe or remember anything I tell her unless she sees the same thing on Good Morning America. For me, my husband can tell me all the Mac shortcuts, rumors, etc. but I only really start paying attention to them after seeing them on Blurbomat. Go figure.
I hope that even though this has been stressful you are still having fun.

Using Google Reader on Firefox, the Daily Photos are showing up as the thumbnail in the reader instead of the actual photo. I don’t know if you were aware of this or not, but it looks like it needs some more tweaking (please don’t hate me!).
November 29th, 2007 at 2:31 pm
@De in D.C., that is the intended feed for now. Given the amount of imagery and the size of the images, the choice was made to provide a thumbnail so that feed readers and our server didn’t bog down on the big images.
No hating. Just letting you know that thumbnails are a choice we made, not a bug.

What’s the expected time between a post and the feed getting updated? I still don’t see today’s posts in Google Reader, but they’ve been on the site quite a while now.
I have no idea if it’s supposed to be that slow or not, so I thought I’d let you know.

That ElfYourself things is HYSTERICAL.

@paul in kirkland, nope. Sounds like a browser cache issue. My Google Reader shows updated feeds with photos. Shift-refresh a whole bunch? With Google Reader there are a couple of layers. I’d also click the Refresh button that’s part of Google Reader.

Love the new look: specifically, the black banner at the top and the menu…very classy looking. I love the size of the photos and that we now get three. Very awesome.
I miss[ed]: having the links on the sidebar but have adapted to them being in the body and besides, the labelling makes it everything accessible anyway.

Also, the right sidebar is far too bare for my tastes.
I had this same impression at first, but then I have Adblock Plus turned on so it’s definitely barer than it would be for someone without that plugin.

How about a link to Blurbomat?

Thanks for the cache fix. All that clicking was making me tired. It didn’t stop me though, gotta have my daily Dooce! I love the new look!
