Red Zone Case

December 11th, 2007

What I’d post to Twitter if it allowed more characters:

Thinking that I’m ready to break sucky and awful products that don’t work (like fans in external hard drives) into a million pieces, put them in a box, shit in the box and ship it to the CEOs home. Would it kill you to spend a few cents more on a quieter, better made product? And while we’re at it, do you think a manufacturer in another country gives a shit? Since they don’t, I’m giving my shit to you. p.s. Happy Holidays!

I feel your pain. I once bought a top-of-the-line JVC VCR because I had previously owned one that lasted 12 yrs w/o issue. Sadly, that one was made in Japan. The new one was made in Malaysia. It didn’t last the 1 yr warranty period.

JVC ships all their parts ground, so it took 3+ wks to get the parts, and I was without my only VCR for a month. I got it back, and it died again in less than a month (now out of warranty). Back to the shop, another 2-3 wks of waiting for different parts, and an $85 charge. Repeat scenario 3X (other than the charge).

At the end of it (my patience as well as the unsuccessful repairs), JVC offered to check out the problem, but would only cover shipping. Any diagnostic or repair costs would be mine.

I smashed the VCR into as many pieces as I could, boxed it up and sent it off. Never heard back from them. Curious.

Bought a Zenith for $88, and it’s still in use (by my parents) 8 yrs later. During all this, I was going to set up a “bitching” site, but all the JVC-hating names were taken.
