Hillary v. Haters in Mainstream Media?
January 10th, 2008How bashing Hillary backfired | Salon.com
Interesting take on why Hillary won in New Hampshire. While I agree about the jackassery from the punditry, not sure if I agree with the premise of the article: independent women voters swung for Hillary giving her the win. I wonder if that will play out in the long run?
In a Chris Matthews v. Hillary Clinton deathmatch, who wins? o

And to think I used to like Chris Matthews, too.

I don’t believe that all of the mainstream media is any harder on Clinton than they are on any of the other “frontrunners”.
Fox News is the only one that openly hates her and that’s more about her being associated with Bill than her being a woman. They just pounce on her being a woman as her weak spot because they are a bunch of idiot misogynists.
I am in total agreement with Brokaw. Instead of just waiting for the results, the mainstream media feels that they have to stampede the voters towards one candidate or another. Jon Stewart had a great discussion last night with John Zobgy of Zogby Pollng on this exact subject as did Stephen Colbert with Matt Taibbi, the political reporter for Rolling Stone magazine.

Oh,and Hillary would kick Matthews’s ass.

Matthews wouldn’t stand a chance.

Hillary would kick ass.
I can never make up my mind on that woman but I do know that she is a bad ass.

I think one of the main things that turned out women voters for Hillary in New Hampshire was when two idiot men showed up at one of her rallies and kept yelling “iron my shirts” at her until they were escorted out. This prank got a lot of coverage in the NH media and I think it pissed a lot of women off and they came out and voted for Hillary.

Iron my shirts?
Wow, that’s class.

Before people on the right side of the spectrum are Blamed or characterized by the IRON MY SHIRT sign,
Everyone should know that it was a radio stunt.

It’s true it was a radio stunt (thought up by a couple of men), but it still mobilized a lot of women who it pissed off. I’m a big Obama supporter, but I would have probably voted for Hillary after that bullshit.

She’d wipe the floor with Matthews, I’m surprised she didn’t when he pinched her cheek but I suppose that restraint is required of a presidential candidate.
I read that article and thought it was RIGHT ON for one point in particular - that Hillary losing Iowa and polling low heading into NH suddenly created an atmosphere of ‘well she’s going to lose, let’s tear her to shreds’ and a lot (if not most) of the tearing took on an extraordinarily misogynistic quality. It’s disturbing that so many people are so ready to knock a woman back into her place the very moment they get the opportunity.
And as for the iron my shirts thing being a radio stunt, it really doesn’t make it any better, I don’t care which side of the spectrum it came from.

I hope Chris Matthews knows that his career is over if Hillary wins.

Agree with Bluestar’s point about her being down so far in the NH polls that the media unloaded on her. It was all about what did Hillary do to screw this up so bad? Obama is so likable and such a good speaker that everyone was expecting his coronation.
BTW, “Iron my shirt” makes me giggle.

Chris Matthews is an assrag. Hillary Clinton would behead him and march round with it on a spike if it came to it. I bet he doesn’t know how to iron his own shirts either.
He and the rest of the punditocracy will end their honeymoon for Obama if/when he wins the nomination and they’ll be raking up all the dirt they can find. It’ll make the swift boating look like a teddy bear’s picnic, loathsome crew that they are.
