Rude Awakenings
January 28th, 2008We are home.
The road trip back was largely uneventful, but I’m sure Heather would disagree. She spent the first leg curled up in a ball and in pain.
We stopped for gas in Beaver, Utah and when I rolled down the window, I was hit with a winter blast of icy cold air. My days of walking puppies in sunshine and 60° weather are over. It was the same this morning when I took Coco out for her first business trip. Wind and cold were a cruel reminder of the season we had left to get some sun.
I can’t describe the euphoria, even while sicker than I’ve been in a long while, of walking barefoot on a beach and watching the dogs play. The sun, sometimes a flitty mistress, still rejuvenated me during a time of heavy stress and illness. The sun made me think that things will get better, that I will get better and that even though we are in the deepest heart of winter now, it’s a matter of weeks before we’ll start to thaw. Trip report after I catch up and do some long standing work. o

As a citizen of the Great White North, I often question why I continue to live in the land of snow and cold. The temp is supposed to drop by some 18degrees Celsius (sorry, don’t have the Fahrenheit equivalent, but it’s a LOT) tonight at 65mph winds move in off the Great Lakes. I miss the Florida beach that squished its way between my toes barely a month ago.
I hope Heather’s feeling better now that you’re home. I wish you all nothing bot good health as we count the days down to warmer weather.
Hey, isn’t it Groundhog Day next week?

hey there… you guys should come to australia. we just went to cairns/great barrier reef (we live about 2.5 hr flight from it), though the only bad thing is that you wouldn’t be able to bring the dogs with you unless you plan to stay here longer than the 1 month quarantine period. We were on the beach every day, and it’s always warm here, anytime of year.
70 degrees Fahrenheit is what they call cold here.
