Had to Happen

Apple - iPhone

Apple ups the memory of the iPhone. There is a 16gb version that costs $499. The 8gb version stays at $399. I’m still very happy with my iPhone and figured they’d up the storage at some point and I figured it would happen about now. No sour grapes for me. You? o

I have a 4gb and I love it. More storage is always nice but I never feel like I don’t have enough room. I generally keep a ton of podcasts, 6 or 8 albums, a video or two, and a good amount of photos on it and still have about a gig to spare.

For me internet and mail connectivity are the big things, not so much media storage.

Ask me again when the SDK comes out, and we start to see all sort of 3rd party apps that are too good to not install, but will soon eat up my 8GB…

(Of course, that doesn’t stop my current 8GB model from being the best piece of electronics I’ve *ever* owned by far.)

I only wish I was elite enough to have an iPhone. Maybe someday…

I am more excited about the 32gb iPod Touch. I hope they keep increasing the memory on that until my trusty iPod bites the dust.

I’ve got the 8GB version. I purposefully waited a while before I got one (as a Christmas present!) because I knew they’d up the ante a couple of times fairly quickly after the first release. They always dangle something shiny in front of us. It’s their job. I think this release is fair. Don’t feel duped. Yet.

Buying any Apple product is like a poker game. You just have to read the signs and know when to buy in. All that said, I haven’t filled mine up yet. But I’m 2G away from needing to dump some tunes off this thing.

    @Andy W

That is a really good point about 3rd party apps taking up space.

I had a feeling this would happen about now, but I got my 8GB a few months ago at Christmas (I couldn’t wait). I’m not finding memory to be a problem, so no complaints here. I don’t think I would have spent the extra $100 anyway, to be honest.

ooof. still want an iPhone. still am afraid of what t-mobile will do to me to get out of my contract. still afraid more of what it will cost each month to have the iPhone. but, want one, i do.

No hard feelings for me on the add’l space. I’d have been more upset if the changes impacted the price of the 8GB.

I wonder how I’ll feel when the 3rd party apps begin showing up (is that still rumored to be March/April?)… probably depends on whether or not I can even use them on mine. If they keep this one locked down, I imagine my ire will increase exponentially withe the coolness of the new apps. If they suck, I may care a little less about not having access to them.

    Margaret Says:

Eh. I figured this would happen someday and I kinda wish there was a way to magically increase my storage. I think adding a hundred bucks onto the price is a not bad way to do this. Honestly I haven’t found space to be an issue- I haven’t fully loaded it with all my music, but I don’t use it as an iPod so much. The internet is waaay more important to me.

Umm…nice “The View” ad. I was going to talk about how I traded in my 4Gig for a 16Gig today but Whoopi has totally thrown me off.

I’m going to go rock back and forth in the corner and listen to something manly…like Lily Allen.

I am still smarting from the $100. nerd tax but must admit that it’s the coolest toy I’ve ever owned. Maybe future ones will have a better camera. I use it because it’s so easy to email the photos.

    jon deal Says:

I got mine for Christmas so it still has that “fresh as a daisy” thing going on.

It works. I love it. No complaints.

Can’t wait for the SDK apps to start coming down the pike.

    Donny Pauling Says:

I don’t mind either. I’m not using even half the storage of my 8GB iPhone. If they come out with a 3G iPhone I’ll no doubt buy one and get the one with the largest amount of storage, but for now there are no sour grapes here.

    jae Says:

A little irked since I just got mine LAST WEEK. Oh well. It works well and I love it. That’s all that matters.

    Dale Cruse Says:

I have the original 4GB model and am still in love with it. Meanwhile I have a 30GB iPod sitting unused on my desk. In my best Home Shopping Network voice: “Mint condition, people!” Who was that guy? Don West?

    Erika Says:

No sour grapes for me, but probably because I am hoping to get mine this year ;) It has been good for me to know that you are enjoying it so much, especially as you are so technically literate ;) HUGS

    Candi Says:

Do I really NEED 16gb? I think not. I will just have to live without… because that $100 issue still sticks in my craw. No sour grapes. Still have an extra ipod so all is well.

    Stenar Says:

I still love my 8gb iPhone. I’ll pass it on to my partner when they come out with a 3g iPhone, though.

    Marty Says:

I don’t really need the 16Gb right now - 8Gb is fine, and my iPhone is the first mobile device I’ve owned that I’m truly happy with. I wouldn’t change a thing about it, and that speaks volumes about how right Apple got it. I really can’t see me upgrading for a long time yet.

    dhgatsby Says:

i agree. although i am still holding out for the 3G. guess i am too practical. waiting to get out of my Sprint contract in August probably is holding me back a bit too. hope you are feeling swell.

    minxlj Says:

I’m not at all bothered - I have a ton of photos and music on my 8GB iPhone (which only came out here in the UK 3 months ago so I’ve not had it long anyway) so it’s enough for me. I’d agree with Marty - this is the first device I’ve had that I’m truly happy with, too.

Unless they come out with something gobsmackingly brilliant for iPhone #2 (which they probably will!) I’ll stick with this - I don’t see the point in upgrading for everything, and from an environmental standpoint I’m hoping to get a lot of usefulness from it before I even think of changing it. Anything else is just being wasteful.

    southerngirl Says:

Love, love, love my sweet little 4gb iPhone. Just wish Apple would come out with a cut and paste software upgrade.

    Stu Mark Says:

I’m waiting for a keyboard that takes into account the fat of finger. Also, I am a guitarist, so I’d have to learn to keep my fingernails trimmed. Annoying.

And yet I fetish an iPhone in a very deep way.

  24. 24
    Aimee Greeblemonkey Says:

No grapes from me. It would be a hard choice in a fire between this thing and my child.

Although, the ironic part is just the day before the announcement, I *was* clearing off some music to make room for some new downloads.

    kate Says:

    hiya.
hubs just got me the 16GB one for Valentines Day. love it. But, anyone know why you can’t accept/decline emailed ical invites via the iphone? Seems tres silly that you can’t just add events remotely. hubs not buying himself an iphone until this is sorted because he uses his Palm for business.
